Log Spamming or is Someone Stealing my Commissions?
I just check my stats on my cpanel for one of my larger sites and noticed a lot of hits coming from a Canadian pharmacy site of which my site cannot be found in the source code at all and I've never even heard of it before. I've noticed this a few times on my smaller sites too.
What also concerns me is even though my larger site is getting more hits than ever my commissions are waaaaaaaaay down for this month. No sales at all the last week 1/2 or so which is unusual. The affiliate stats shows hits but no sales.
As I'm kind of clueless on how to protect my self I'm not sure what to think or do at this point. Am I just being paranoid?

ps. I use an older version of Wordpress for my site.

Thanks in advance for any advice you have!

    Christine

The log spamming *itself* probably has nothing to do with the lower commissions.

But it hints that there may be more going on, which may or may not involve that particular person. A lot of spammers start their scrapers or logspam bots at Google. So if your site gets decent rank, it'll usually end up on the lists of lots of different spammers, and targeted by a wide variety of tactics.

So check your SE listings and see if you find anything fishy.
Also make sure those "hits" aren't actually coming from some scraper bot(s) before you assume you have real traffic. Check your logs and try to track down where that traffic is coming from.

Ok, what exactly am I looking for? my site is listed #2 in Google for a popular kw phrase but when I find it in G and click on it I can't see anything weird going on.

I've checked the logs in my c-panel, still trying to figure it out. I also use Statcounter but nothing really to see there. I did have a look at the ShortStat plugin I have in my site and found:
    Unique Hits+Rss
    Today, 29 Apr 2008 326 468+70
    Mon, 28 Apr 2008 395 11330+68
    Sun, 27 Apr 2008 423 20326+70
    Sat, 26 Apr 2008 335 676+60
    Fri, 25 Apr 2008 310 679+58
    Thu, 24 Apr 2008 354 630+66
    Wed, 23 Apr 2008 304 523+64
    Tue, 22 Apr 2008 325 686+56

The 28th and 29th have a huge # of hits which seems a bit alarming to me.

I'm not really sure what to look for or what I can do to stop/prevent this.

BTW, Leader, thanks for taking the time to reply to my post

One more thing I found in the stats and I'm not sure what the heck this is:
    Hits=29531 (14.46%) Files=29468 KBytes=1383964 (43.28%) all from 1 visit from hostname: 157.red-81-38-221.dynamicip.rima-tde.net
    who/what is 157.red-81-38-221.dynamicip.rima-tde.net?

The next highest hits are 1747, 900, 800... on down from googlebots, and others.

That is likely a dynamic IP subscriber Internet connection. The IP address for that domain is 81.38.221.157. The geographical location of the IP address is Reus, Spain.
