    Or is it just me?

My traffic today is down over 75% from what I would expect based on the last few months - and I'm getting practically no click-thrus to ANY link.

    Hi, I'm in St Albans.
I couldn't get onto ABestWeb for a while this morning. Haven't noticed anything else odd, though.

Radegast - St Albans, eh? Just down the road from me in Bedford

The Internet is verrrry slow. It's not just MSBlast which is still hammering away, ISC shows status green, but response times are dreadful.

I was born in St. Albans - lived there for about 25 years before I got married and had to up sticks for a house I could afford!

Now I just commute up the M25 to Heathrow every day, while trying to earn enough money to take early retirement.

And it doesn't look like today is going to help any!!!

Hmm.. yes. I think we have an ABW member in Silverstone too.

Anyway, this is what my ISP is reporting. Basically, it looks like the DNS servers are getting swamped by reverse lookups from firewalls responding to MSBlast.

    <BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>ntlhome Internet Service - All areas
ntlhome internet customers in all areas may currently be experiencing connectivity problems.

This is due to a technical fault affecting one of our DNS clusters. It may manifest itself as a delayed connection to any services such as browing web pages and collecting/sending email.

The issue is compounded by firewalls performing reverse DNS lookups attempting to identify the source of worm related traffic. We would ask that if you are able to do so, you disable the reverse lookup (sometimes called backtrace) feature in your firewall for traffic of this nature. This will not reduce the protection that your firewall affords you, but may increase the performance of your connection and that of others.

[17/8/03 14:01]Emergency maintenance will need to be carried out shortly which will see dns performance degraded for a short time. Please check back for more information.

[17/8/03 17:30] This work is currently being undertaken.

Our engineers are currently working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

I was born in Deptford. I lived in London but got a job in St Albans three years ago.
Got fed up with paying hundreds of pounds each month for the privilege of spending hours commuting on the worst rail network in the country, so I took out a mortgage as soon as I had saved enough for the deposit, and here I am.
(Trouble is, my job is giving me ulcers, and I ain't making enough from websites to pay the mortgage...)

In a few months I shall be moving to Cornwall - I'm buying a Post Office and giving up the rat race once and for all.

I'm not making enough from the web to live on, but it's a good secondary income - I could now *almost* live on what I make (if I cut down on luxuries like food) and I have high hopes for the next year or so.

It's 22 miles from home to the airport (where I work). It generally takes me between 1 and 2 1/2 hours each way....

Traffic may be down, but quality's up - I just made a single commish that by itself beats the minimum payout for the month...
