Affiliate Bounties for Acquiring New Customers
    Hi!
I would love input from both affiliates and AMs regarding how to motivate and reward affiliates for driving new customers (those who have not previously ordered from us) to our brands?
From an AM POV, has any kind of campaign (ie. increased revshare, bonus payments, etc.) worked especially well?
And from the affiliate POV, what kind of compensation works best for you?
    Thanks!

Don't know about others but I am not interested in driving traffic to a merchant if I am only getting compensated on a first transaction.
I would rather live my life as if there is a God and die
to find out there isn't, than live my life as if there
isn't and die to find out there is.

That's not necessarily how it works. A bounty is usually something on top of the commission. For example, Drugstore.com pays a $3 bounty for each new customer on top of the commission. They also have an option that instead of that deal, the bounty plus a commission, a higher commission, minus the bounty.

Yes Trust, that is exactly what I am talking about.
I am just trying to learn what has been more successful and well-received:
Increased commission per sale? Say 2-4% more per sale (TBD)
Dollar amount bonus per sale? $3-$6 per sale (TBD)

I lean towards the increased commission, it's what I picked with Drugstore.com since they gave affiliates the option to choose. I have no idea whether the customers I'm sending are new or returning, plus a merchant could always say they're all returning and there really would be no way for me to find out if that's true or not. Taking the increased commission instead, I know what I'm going to get paid for each sale regardless.

Do you know of any other affiliate programs with commission/bonus structures like this?
I hate to keep saying bounty, I feel like a pirate...ARRRRGGGG!
I am just trying to get all the fact together to present to the big bosses.

That's the only one where I do some good business with that I know of, I'm sure I have others but haven't paid much attention to it.

I think new customer bounties (in addition to, not in place of existing commissions) is a great way to reward those affiliates who send a lot of new customers to you, or to encourage them to promote new customer offers. For instance, that's a big draw for promoting eBay, even though almost everyone is already an eBay customer.

Most of the merchants I talk to list "acquiring new customers" as one of the most important goals of their affiliate program, yet few offer new customer bounties.

One thing every merchant should keep in mind is that they should pay commissions the actions that they want affiliates to produce.
