Interesting news today. United Online Inc., the owner of Classmates.com and Mypoints, announced that they are acquiring FTD. Everyone agrees that this is a REALLY strange purchast but that United Online needs to do something to diversify given how Classmates.com has been busting as of late.
Of all of the articles that I read, almost half of them mentioned the cross-marketing potential of being able to use Mypoints to really push the FTD sales to give FTD a competitive advantage over 1-800-Flowers and Proflowers.
Here's one of the best articles that I read from the Chicago Tribune.

I despise the company for their ethics and tactics (BTW, they have threatened to sue me) but definitely a smart acquisition for cross promotion, diversification and serious growth potential in the vertical!Continued Success,

I agree with H, sounds like a smart move on their part, though they suck for spam, bhos, data mining, etc.
My gut tells me that people who are great at spamming, will never excel in creating consumer value, the key to real growth in large enterprises.
So they'll eventually trash FTD, by pushing too hard on its front end without doing all the hard work to build and add value things, like customer service, etc.
