    Question How does it work???
    Hello!

I'm trying to understand how eBates and Mr.Rebates work (affiliate websites that share profit with users): you open an account with them; then you select an item or store you want to buy/visit; you click on the link and you will be redirected to the merchat's website; you purchase something. How do they know what you purchased and how do they know if it was you and not somebody else??? This is what I do not understand...

Can any body explain in details how such affiliates work???

    Thank you!

    Dima

Each network has it's own unique tracking system but in simple terms the affiliate links goes through the network url with merchant_id, affiliate_id and product_id as parameters after the "?" . There is also an optional fourth parameter sometimes called something like afftracking or clickref which is used by the affiliate to get more detailed tracking information.

So for a cashback site the purchasers user # or reference would also be passed to the network.

The affiliate can then log into the network and see all the commission earned by each of his customers.

So a cashback link would look something like this:

    network.com?mid=MMMM&afid=AAAAA&product=PPPPPP&afftrack=UUUUU

Where the UUUUU is an identifier for each of the cashback sites customers.

    thank you!

I figured out that for CJ it is SID (ShopperID) that is appended to the url.
