    Multiple Blogs on One Site
I have a domain where I want to host 4 or 5 blogs. I want to have a different theme for each blog. Will having 4 or 5 blogs under one domain have an effect on SE ranking?

I was thinking of setting the site up like this:

    domain.com/blog1
    doamin.com/blog2
    domain.com/blog2

with a common index at the root of the domain.

    Any advice is helpful. Thanks
    Thanks,
    Doug

Having multiple blogs under one root domain should not have an adverse affect on SEO rankings; as long as the blogs cover different topics. MoreVisibility has 3 blogs on our site, all with a different purpose and realm of content.

Also, if you think about it...the sites like blogger and news sites with blogs all have multiple blogs under one domain...

Okay, I'm sure what you've said here is written in the English language. Been speaking and writing (American) English since I was a mere lad. But I swear not much of it makes real sense.

Care to translate? I'm especially puzzled by "great call to action for the form request"? Maybe it's just me. And, also, I'm not too clear on "nice set up on more visibility" either?

I can't speak for Pingo, but I believe he was referring to the blogs we have on our site, morevisibility.

I was typing fast. You caught me. I'll pass on the translation and make a note to edit my future posts.

I dont think WPMU is needed for this because there is no need for instant on the fly subdomains or folders it sounds like to me.

The only thing about 5 seperate Wordpress installs is that it will take a mysql database for each one. But that is also a plus in case one gets corrupted or erased or something.

I like WPMU but setting it up is a pain and there are theme and plugin compatibility issues. You need a better server and more access to the root of the server at least to start it. And if its one database gets damaged you are in a world of hurt. You have to go back to the backup for all blogs.

Most hosting plans with cpanel and one click wordpress will let you do this. For the install directory just change it to where you want it installed. If you leave it blank it will try to put in in your main at index.php. It does not sound like you want any of them there. Installing and updating Worpdress and plugins is quite easy as well. I just did this on one of my domains and it was not bad at all. But my main url is a magazine style blog, and then a folder is a more personal blog-style blog if that makes sense. It works real well and everything is up with the latest 2.51 Wordpress which looks better than WPMU as well.

You can also setup sub-domains for each blog:

    dogs.domain.com
    cats.domain.com
    fish.domain.com

This is the approach we're taking with a new project we're launching.
