    So You've Been Declined
So what? Don't take it personally. Here's my latest example.

Signed up (applied) for a merchant I really wanted to work with at CJ, because they're great for my vertical.

A few days pass, and I get the "We regret to inform you..." email in my CJ inbox.

So rather than coming here and blasting the merchant (even though my main website listed is a great fit for them), I did the human, common sense, friendly thing to do. I emailed them at the address provided at CJ.

    Dear merchant:

I get 30 to 50 people a day looking for XXXX specifically. What say you reconsider?

    Thanks,

    Kevin

48 minutes later, I have an offer in the CJ interface. Done and done. Links are going up in a minute.

Now, this is obviously also a good merchant: attentive, responsive, and looking for value added affiliates. So it won't always be like this, but do the smart thing before you start torching people. Send an email, pick up the phone, whatever....

    Dear merchant:

I get 30 to 50 people a day looking for XXXX specifically. What say you reconsider? And I have $100 for your PayPal, just need your email address if you can hurry this up.

    Thanks,

    Kevin

But yeah. Usually if it's a merchant I really want and I get declined, a simple email usually does the trick.

I have experienced this over the last few weeks myself (canít imagine why COUPONBASTARD dot com)

I also took the extra initiative and wrote the merchants directly and to my surprise received the same result. (expect for the one hockey site I really wanted

Just goes to show that a little bit extra work can go a long way...

hehe... imagine that - someone makes a flawed business decision, you respond like a professional stating your case, then they respond in kind and give you what you wanted initially?

Wow.... you have blazed a trail here man.

    </sarcasm>

Nice work... with more people acted like this across the board. As an OPM, it's almost never personal when I decline an application. And I do make mistakes.

I'm always happy to admit it when someone comes back as you described and corrects me.

I usually get the - " you can just F___ off - I don't want to work with you jerks anyway"

Score one for civility and professionalism.

Exactly! Many times the declination is a network thing based on a set of parameters - maybe arbitrary and maybe designed. But one should not feel offended by an initially declined app. And, if the personal email does not work, don't flame, don't lambaste, don't burn bridges - because there is a lot of interconnectivity in this business. It is always "right" to act professionally.
