I downloaded, and installed the free version of zone alarm firewall. I was test clicking on a product ad (book) for barnes and noble. A pop-up appeared offering ten bucks off from akamai.net.

Does the free zone alarm come bundled with parasiteware? If so, then how do I get rid of it without removing zone alarm?

That has nothing to do with Zone Alarm. The BN website uses Akamai technology so some of the content originates from Akamai servers.

thanks for the info. does the cookie get left alone, or does it get over written when that happens (if the visitor clicks on the coupon)?

B&N always produces a pop-up when I go there. A cheap and annoying gimmick and a definite back-click for many visitors.

I wonder if those pop-ups are the reason they are such a poor performer on my book review site, even when I featured them over Amazon?

B&N is a joke. They approved a payment to me for 2 years worth of traffic. The approval was dated 09/01/2002. Does it take B&N almost 12 months to send in the payment to BeFree?? No check issued and the additional sales since then add up to a whopping 2.10. Folks running that one almost make me want to go back to pushing Amazon.

I'm going to say in all likelihood the cookie would be left alone since BN is just using Akamai technology to speed up their website. I don't think Akamai is dropping any parasitic cookies.

Barnes and Noble has been my best book merchant, thus far. I have always received my checks from them. They are the best, for me, with music, too.
