    When viewing my log file,
i discover a site url send quite a lots of traffic to my site everyday.

When go to their page and view the source code,
i cannot find anything related to my sites url.
    Including banners or links.
And their site topic is completely unrelated to my site theme too.

    How can this happen?

Do you have this experience too?

Without my site url on their site,
how their url could become a top referrer to my site?

    Strange!

Hard to say Vrindavan without more detailed info on what you are seeing.

I’ve seen that occasionally myself, but no more than once a week. Usually it’s for a “Get 10 Billion hits a Day Site” or “Make money in your sleep site”. I always assumed that they were sending out a bot that was spoofing referrer information knowing that a bunch of us would visit the site to see who was linking to us. I just love it when some company uses my bandwidth to SPAM me.

It can also happen if someone leaves a page, say their browsers homepage, to go to your site.

I get the ABW "new post" page as a refer. Used to confuse me until I realized it was me leaving there and checking one of my own sites!

Actually, Jason (NewcastleB) hit this on the head. It is a growing method of SPAM, and I generally see it with web hosting companies. They show up in your logs, you click on the referer to see who is linking to you. You end up at their site with their mission accomplished. Besides, how many of you would not click a SPAM e-mail for hosting, but click on the referer in your logs? Nasty tactic that is growing in popularity.

Referral log marketing is growing in popularity with the spammers.

I have had strange referrer links and many times I am curious and go check them out. Well, about 20% of the time is bogus....
But it does seem that more spammers resort to these tactics.

I’ve seen iaea before. That’s the International Atomic Energy Association. Among other things they monitor compliance with the Nuke Non-proliferation Treaty. Makes you feel good to have them visiting your site, doesn’t it. I’ve gone through spurts where they hit a couple times a week, but I never really figured out what the deal is. I don’t know if it’s a legitimate bot looking for people selling plutonium on ebay, or a bot collecting email addresses trying to look legitimate. I’ve never seen the other one, but if it’s a bot, I can’t see it coming from aapu.org.

    http://www.iea.org/ and iaea.org

I have seen these guys in the logs of one of my client's sites, and one of my sites for four years now. They were there right after the site launched, at a site that only got 50 site visits/day. This was a club site, and we always thought one of the members was employed there. It just looked fishy as h*ll.

Would love to know what is really going on.

Adam's link doesn't appear to be working http://www.easywebpromotion.com/faq.htm Owned by some traffic promoter out of the UK. More of the tricks-for-clicks and illegal cookie setting crowd hell bent on devising ways to make commissions without working.
