    How does wordtracker get access the the search engines records? Are they available for everyone to use?

    I believe they are with the right software. There are many sites that trak search terms.

    As I recall, their info said they have a deal with Metacrawler for the raw info, and they extrapolate the amount of searches at each engine from that set of data.

    WordTracker has a deal with Infospace to use the search term records from - I think - Dogpile and MetaCrawler. For the estimated searches, they have a deal with WebSideStory to use the information from HitBox to estimate the number of searches in any given search engine.

    The search engine log file info isn't generally available, though. Although, there's always the search term suggestion tool at Espotting and Overture (well, maybe not the Overture tool !)and the estimated clicks thing at AdWords is worth using.
