I have a client that is looking to launch ASAP on Avant Link and is a bit concerned on posting his full product descriptions in his data feed as he does not want the content's SEO impact diluted through having it used by affiliates.
What are some solutions or approaches others have taken?

He could alter them automatically before they get into the feed.

I think Google is pretty good at identifying the originating source of the content. But Google is more concerned with fresh content lately, so I'd say not adding new products and descriptions on a regular basis would be more detrimental.

What do you mean by "He could alter them automatically before they get into the feed."

When he is reading in and parsing the datafeeds he could attempt to replace some of the content with synonymous phrases. This is a lot of work but from what I hear it is not uncommon.

Rewriting the content is not that hard but you do have to have a synonym database first. Based upon that it's a matter of pushing the button.
What you also sometimes see in a datafeed is exerpts of the description like the first 150 words

It's still up to the affiliates to be unique from each other. I don't know a feasible merchant-side way to change that. I don't want to put out a feed that *starts out* looking like it went through a Markov generator!
On the affiliate side, I just run the feeds, but right now I'm trying a method of mixing things up so it's not so *totally* obviously dup c*ntent. That effort is too new to know if it's going to work, though. There is no knowledge that is not power. ~Hemingway
