not only did we work for BMW at the same time, we're both drummers...

It depends on your needs. It's like asking "what's the best computer for me to buy"

What kind of music, is storage/transport an issue, recording or live performance, etc....

Actually its for a beginner, I just want something that I can use for a while, the local shops sell Yamaha and Pearl sets, it'll be kept in the spare room, I just wanna set to beat around and release all my stress Thanks.

They're both solid manufacturers. Go for whichever you most like the look of and meets your budgetary constraints. (If noise is an issue you can buy digital kits where you can practise with headphones, but they are more expensive)

Thanks, where I'm living I don't have much choice so I'll have to decide from those 2 brands. The neighbors are not a problem as I have a detached house, the only problem is the wife

If you want a REAL kit, this is what I suggest:

DrumWorkshop & Ayott make the best sounding kits. www.dwdrums.com to find a retailer worldwide.

If you just wanna bang around a Yamaha Stage Custom or Pearl Export will do just fine. If you do buy Pearl, buy Remo or Aquarian heads - do not use the factory heads!

    That's some piece of kit...!

(Trying to figure out what all those pedals on the left are for...)

If JJJay just wants to get started it isn't worth investing in a set of heads - the factory supplied ones should be fine for that...

The left most pedal is for the hi hats on the right - notice the cable coming out of it. The middle pedal is for the left hi hats and the right pedal is the second bass pedal.

If he's gonna bang solid, hard strokes on factory heads, they're gonna get huge dents and probably split after a few months. It pays to invest in quality IMHO.

Where would the band meet for practice?
I've been playing bass since around 1969 and own 8 but the problem has always been the band breaking up due to varying band-member circumstances.

    JJJay,

When you decide what you want see if zZounds has it. They have great prices.
