    June 22, 2008 - George Carlin passes
George Carlin died earlier today of apparent heart failure. He was 71 years old.

Few people had such a tremendous impact on the entertainment industry. He will be sorely missed.

    Wow, what a shock.

He was one of my 2 or 3 all-time favorite comedians, and one of the great commentators on the absurdities of life.

His "Take Offs and Put Ons" was to me, the funniest comedy album ever, and back in the late 1960s, I had every word of it memorized.

I was lucky enough to see him peform once in person, in the early 1970s.

Back in the 60s, there was a stretch of time when he was on the Merv Griffin Show almost every night, for several months, doing new, original variations of his newscaster routine. This was long before VCRs, or evern cassette tape, and I use to hold up a microphone attached to a reel-to-reel tape recorder to record just the sound of his routine every night.

Here are a some of the great routines from the early George Carlin, when he was less social commentary, and just plain funny:

    Newscast
    Daytime TV
    Indian Sergeant
    Commercials
    Wonderful WINO Radio

Carlin's brand "did you ever notice" humor will sorely be missed. I think my favorite sketch was the one about "stuff".

    Funny man for sure.
I would rather live my life as if there is a God and die
to find out there isn't, than live my life as if there
isn't and die to find out there is.

    RIP George Carlin
I feel like it is the end of an era. George was the guy I watched to feel like I was doing something really sneaky as a kid and watching something that I shouldn't be watching.

Definitely agree with all of ya. Really enjoyed his take on things and humor Not positive but think fairly recently he had done some children's shows (obviously uhh with not the same language) he definitely will be missed.

Think big reason he was so funny and well liked by us is that he was sooooo down to earth and we all could relate to what he was sayin. Thing I really liked too was his humor wasn't at the expense of someone else. Really don't like personal attacks on somebody else as humor. He never did that, least that I ever remember. Reallllly was very funny and will miss him.

Wow - again, ABW is where I usually get the news -

My absolute favorite GC routine was on driving:

"All drivers have a dart gun with suction cup darts - If you see someone driving like an a$$hole, you shoot a dart at their car. If a car has enough darts, a cop can pull the driver over and give him/her a ticket "just for being an a$$hole"

LMAO - classic stuff. RIP great one
    Peace,
