DoubleClick Performics is now Google Affiliate Network
We are pleased to introduce Google Affiliate Network . Effective Monday, June 30, 2008, DoubleClick Performics Affiliate will operate as Google Affiliate Network. The integration with Google's brand is a reflection of efforts to quickly assimilate our business and teams, as well as reinforce Google's commitment to the Affiliate channel. Together with our new colleagues at Google we are creating new opportunities for monetization, expansion and innovation in Affiliate Marketing.

Within the next couple of weeks you will see some exciting changes to the user interface reflecting the new brand. The platform will continue to be hosted at www.ConnectCommerce.com, but will eventually migrate to a google.com product url.

As noted in earlier communications, DoubleClick Performics' Search operations are being spun off and sold to a third party. While many advertisers have relationships with both DoubleClick Performics' Affiliate and Search, there have always been separate account teams and product-specific specialists servicing clients' search and affiliate programs. These teams remain intact. While the formal separation will occur when the Search business is sold, the businesses are functionally separate today.

Holy Cowbell! I would have guessed that G would have kept things more subtle by keeping the DC Performics name. Google Affiliate Network sounds so 'in your face'!

Got the news myself about an hour ago. Blogged about it (of course)....
I agree that it is "so in your face" but really can we expect anything less from them.
They offer so much already for free and now they have their name not only behind an affiliate network, but splashed over the the network.
The graphical changes and branding will continue to roll out till the years end, I suspect

Sooo.. what does it mean? Is it good, bad, or does it really matter for affiliates?

In years to come it will get a lot easier to explain what we do by just saying "I work for Google."

Does this mean that the user interface, functionality and services offered by Performics is going to change or will it remain the same?

I've always stayed clear of Google. Guess that'll change now... I feel like I'm watching the movie 1984... and Google is Big Brother...or wait.. maybe I'm confusing it with PMA..

Means even more merchants will be signing up starting affiliate programs, some for the first time. They're usually good with the incentives. They already started getting a lot more once Google got involved, now it's going to be crazy. It's going to make the other networks step their game up as well, which will be good for affiliates.

Me too. I am sure they will tell us that search is totally separate from the affiliate side of the company just as adwords is separate from search. But we can still hope!

Can you imagine the Linkshare management and the CJ management cringing at the thought of Performics now being controlled by the mighty Google?

How long before Peformics becomes the biggest network?

Leann asked: > "ooo.. what does it mean? Is it good, bad, or does it really matter for affiliates?"

And Trust replied: > "Means even more merchants will be signing up . . . . It's going to make the other networks step their game up as well, which will be good for affiliates." <

It all depends on whether Performics changes some of its practices. Clearly, the Google name is going to attract many new merchants and affiliates to the network. But there are reasons why Performics ranks lower than ShareASale -- and even lower than CJ -- in most surveys of affiliates.

One worry is that the Google name (and the promise of explosive growth) may prove to be a magnet for lower-quality merchants and affiliates (as well as high-quality ones). I remember when GeoCities and BeFree announced an affiliate program for GeoCities homesteaders: tens of thousands of new affiliate applications in a few weeks, impossible to evaluate with existing staffs. For one client, it was a nightmare, with tens of thousands of newly-approved affiliates generating huge affiliate-support headaches but just one solitary sale transaction in the first 90 days.

Maybe this would be a good time for affiliates AND merchants to work together to create a "recommended changes" list for Performics to consider.

Link to surveys? You're not even in the network. I would sign up and give it a spin yourself.

I don't see that at all, attracting the lower quality merchants. They've usually had the bigger brands, brands people have heard of, don't see that changing. Just more of the same and like I said, maybe getting some first timers. And this move has probably got the other networks on their toes. Expect more reaching out, improvements from them.

We were just talking about this - I think it can only mean good things for the affiliate community. With Google putting their name behind the affiliate network, we know they see the promise of affiliate marketing as a model and that sends a great signal to the rest of the world (both online and off). In a time where a NY tax law shows us how little many people understand affiliate marketing, Google's faith in the community means we will have a lot less 'splaining to do.

This is very interesting on many levels.

One being the NY tax problem going on. I was wondering if Google was just going to sit back and let the internet be taxed everywhere. Seems to me internet tax is one of Googles biggest threats, due to reduced commercial activities. In being a front for an affiliate network, they sort of have to be involved in this issue head on (maybe).

Many other possibilities too...hope it all leads to the betterment of affiliate marketing.

This didn't take very long...(got this a few minutes ago):
As part of Google's integration of DoubleClick, the DoubleClick Performics Affiliate network is now part of Google. To consolidate our offerings, we will be phasing out the AdWords pay-per-action beta in the last week of August 2008. As an alternative to pay-per-action advertising, Google offers two products that allow you to manage your advertising on a CPA (cost-per-acquisition) basis: the Conversion Optimizer and the Google Affiliate Network.
Appropriate links were in place, of course. And the "third paragraph" in the email...
The Google Affiliate Network, previously known as DoubleClick Performics Affiliate, has been in operation since 1998. Through the network, advertisers can open their ads to all publishers in the network, or select specific publishers that match their criteria.
    yadda-yadda-yadda.

    Intresting happenings/announcements today...for sure.

Where have you people been? With all the cpa ads in adsense this was the next logical step. Today is my last day with cj and linkshare. I trust the big G, you can sit there and say omg they are the bad guy. Yeah maybe if you had a datafeed site that had no value.
