    Kevin congratulations.

I agree. I've quit before, only to go back. Interestingly, ANOTHER NY tax, making smokes $7 a pack here, has pushed me this time. They can kiss my butt

I know the argument could be made that the point of the tax is to urge NYers to quit because of health costs absorbed by the state, but boy, if enough people quit, NY will miss that $3 a pack tax revenue...

Congratulations on being five days smoke free. I lost my grandmother to lung cancer. We were very close and her death still haunts me because of the way she passed. I have a close friend that is in surgery as I am writing this having the cancerous part of her lung and esophagus removed because of smoking.

    Keep up the good work!

Way to go, Kevin, on all counts! Being smoke-free is major!

P.S. Do you think that Noth friend of yours was just a bad influence?

Noth was a terrible influence by the way. I don't miss him a bit.

    WTG Kevin!

I just posted in another thread that I'm 3 days shy of 2 months!

Ironically enough, I started Atkins yesterday myself. I think that's tougher thank quitting smoking. I admire you attempting both.

    Stay strong!

Thanks Missy, and a big congrats to you as well..

I didn't go full Atkins, just real low Carb.

I get all my sugars from natural fruits, eat a lot of high fiber, low card trail mixes, and lots of chicken, fish, and turkey.

And my super secret weapon is Beefsteak Rye Bread (in the red package). No sugar, low carb (at least according to their nutrition information ).

Yeah - I'll likely switch to low carb in 8 days as I'm headed out to Rockfest next week with the Flamingo Lady. I doubt I'll be able to stay true to under 20 carbs a day then

    I'm super proud of you.

Sweet Kevin!! That's awesome! Will we be able to recognize you in Boston? I'll have to give that beefsteak rye a try, sounds like it would be good for a pastrami sandwich. Mmmm.

    pastrami sandwich
LOL. Tomorrow's lesson is fat intake.....

Have to admit though, I haven't been watching my fat all that closely. And a pastrami and swiss on Rye sounds about right at the moment....

I should also point out that my diet would be TERRIBLE for real runners, or climbers, etc. It's a good diet for people who kayak on the odd weekend, and mostly sit in front of a PC.

Congrats Kevin! Keep up the great work and congrats on winning the ABW prize too! Talk about motivation!

You can do it Chris! The first 2-3 weeks are the hardest. I quit about 4 years ago (though these days am known to occasionally have one with a drink - good thing I don't drink often!).
