I know I'm probably the only one who doesn't know but here is my delima. Even though I've been "online" for years I've never, until recently (here), been involved in or joined an online forum. ABW is just too important and too useful to not join. But I see the many shortcuts that posters use when typing their posts such as LOL and BTW and IMHO and others. I think I can figure out some but just don't get all of them.
Is there any place here or elsewhere that I can find out what they all stand for? I sure whould appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction for enlightenment.

    Thanks!

This list isn't all-inclusive, but This Site has a lot of message board abbreviations written out.

On ABW there are a few others that come up a lot including:

    BHO - Browser Helper Object
B-a-HO - Same as above only with obvious connotation attached!
    KMA - Kiss My A**

    Etc.

For the newbies--COC officially = "Code of Conduct".

But in practice, Nova's translation seems pretty accurate!

See www.codeofconduct.info for what the Code of Conduct actually says (down right now).

    How silly, How really Silly.

Have we become so rushed that our typing skills now require a short cut to the actual typed word. I must admit while in the service I was again shocked by the need to teach others an acronym skill. Was it not enough we had to learn the word and how to spell it? Now we have to learn the acronym.

Why in the heck are we so rushed?

Why are we so rushed that we cannot take the time to type out the entire word?

Why are we so rushed that it’s inconvenient?

Why are we so rushed to think that LOL is so much more understandable than Laughing out loud?

WHY the heck are we as a civilization so rushed?

Are we rushing to our grave or are we rushing for the entire sake of rushing?

Well Sandra, I agree on many points, however when you're doing 10 things at once, using a short-cut can be useful.

I only use really really common ones and many from the list I posted I've never even seen in use, not often anyway.

I personally type, hehehe when I laugh
