    A Thread to Out Spammers
Would it be ok With Haiko to create a thread that let us out website that Spam Blogs/Forums etc?

I'm growing tired of the constant spammers and complaining to CJ etc doesn't seem to help so I want to out them in a place like ABW so that AM's etc can see who they are.

I would suggest that when reporting a spammer a screen shot be included to prove the spam.

Hey there HG. Long time I guess.

Just for clarity purposes, what do you consider spam and what do you consider *NOT* spam ?

At what point is the cut off ?

Seems like an interesting idea though.

After thinking about it, it seems it be graet if you could add a poll. I'm pretty sure I know how it turn out, but the numbers would certainly be interesting to look at.

    Can you add one ?

HG Is Being Harpooned By the Spammers....
    HG

Hmmmm..... Although I no longer have to deal with this anymore HG, This is any Admin.'s biggest challenge. The toughest part is when you get 2000 of these jerks a week on there. Talk about Aaaarrrrgggghhhh !! ....

I feel your situation. These cockroaches are hard to get rid of too. Even when the feds come and shut them down.

There is several pieces of software to get rid of these guys and once in stalled they will oft slow the bad guys down for three months at a time till one of them comes up with a hack then you just change it up a bit and your good for a few more months.

While this may seem like a decent idea on the surface {I take NO position here HG}, I wonder, praytell, would you be interested in an alternative & possible equally effective proactive step ?

Now that I better comprehend your issue sir, How can I help ?

Hope this contributes in some way

The problem with doing this in a public fashion is sorting out legitimate entries and info. Someone (competitor) could say hey man I am SICK of hardwaregeeks spamming me. Here is even my screenshot (docotored in photoshop) or here are links to where they have done it! (links pointing to legit spam that they placed with your name to defraud you.)

Competitor could simply buy/rent/build a blogspammer and spam your stuff with it, someone else would eventually file the complaint/issue.

Spam filtering works great, might have to try different plugins or rules.

    Good point bro.

Yeah HG, I sure can see how that could turn into a real witch hunt or some jerk that gets mad at you uses his creditability with someone at ABW or [merchant] etc. to ban you. Or ruin you.

In any case, My offer still stands HG. ~ What can I do to help ?

Show proof of contact, email the spammer and tell them to stop if they ignore the email or continue anyway then tell the world who it is.

For the thread to work you need proof of spam and proof of trying to contact the spammer and getting them to stop.

I agree. Someone once accused Charlie of spammin their blog and *&?)*@Hotmail with a doctored screen shot and a photo of parrot poop left behind like some kinda woodPECKER perp tracks. Turned out to be Seagull crap and certainly Charlie wouldn't be pushing any human sex aids. He's dead set against any human breeding as a strict Greenie Tree Hugger.

    HG

OK. Maybe that could be effective.

Would you consider a math problem or a geography problem as a capcha ?

I used to get guys that obviously either travelled for a living or were russian. Often the bad guys set up in some far away land out of the reach of the feds. People that travel a lot can be tricky too. Often the drug dealers were from Germany or France. One English guy that was supposed to prevent this was aloof to it due to the fact the frame work for being a drug dealer is a bit different in Europe.

So to screen these jokers, I set up a security system, part of which I would ask what guys did for a living or where the double decker bus is located on I-70 in Ohio {what exit # & name of biz} or some other shit. I would tailor my questions to the person. In part it was very real. If I got *ANY* response at all, I'd continue. The B.S. part was I was pinging them to see if it was a bot. I got rid of 90% of these jerks by doing this.

For those who answered, I'd ask them stuff like, whats the name of the nuclear power plant in pittsburgh, P.A. ? {SFCom will know the CORRECT answer to this} or if they say say they are from 'X', I'll ask what the capitol of 'X' is. What is the population of 'X' ?

I did this by hand my self HG. Though I know for a fact you can use an automated version of this. There are several methods.

Man HG, I feel ya bro. I hope this helps !

It would be easy to tell if someone s trying to frame someone. If they are legitimately spamming then they will be all over google
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&s...&start=10&sa=N

If they aren't you won't see any.

As for capcha, you can't defeat human spammers and there are bots available that can do math.

Yes, but you should probably search for the exact spam comment that was entered as opposed to site name+ spam as that's misleading.

And as one who gets a lot of spam, one (meaning I) would know that googling the comment as posted helps increase accuracy when determining if it's spam because often the same comment will show up 100's of times.

As opposed to looking at results that simply pull up two terms that happened to be mentioned on the same page. Sometimes it works and you'll find comments as indicated by the first result, but there are more accurate means as some of the other results have little to do with that site spamming....unless you consider all comments spam.

LOL and a guy with a name like HardwareGeek sounds like someone who hacks Modem hardware for uncapping etc... :-P

    HG

This threads ad says bad things about you. {<Meta description>}. All I can say is that people got a lot of nerve mistreating you.

On the questions, they would need to be different on each try. The examples are just examples. A good way if you are really a geek of any sort is to ask questions only a geek could answer. You could adjust the geek level for the situation.

The soft ware works. if you are interested in browsing a place that is specifically for this PM me.

Its a muliti step process. It does need periodic maintainence.

I see that your sig says "I AM A HARDWARE GEEK". Is it OK if I pm you w/ a few q's ?

HG. I'm sorry you are having this issue. I can see that you have your doubts about this whole thing, and don't seem to trust what I'm telling you is the right thing. I can lead you to the right people and they will help you get rid of these jokers. You can reduce your spam by 70% starting tomorrow.

This crap sucks big time. I know it. Sweeping your shop 4 times a day dumping 2k spammmers hackers drug dealers & porn stars a week. One of these jerks was wearing a neck tie. That was the last straw.

Why do these guys at this forum allow this shit to go on HG ? That just seems freaking nuts. I see chris was not banned either

You can scope this link OR I am just a PM away. How can I help ?

I hope this helps you in some way HG.
