There's a Trojan (actually a Internet Explorer driveby download that uses a common IE exploit) called Q-Hosts1 commented on at NTbugtraq, Internet Storm Center and AntiOnline that appears to fiddle with your hosts file amongst other things, seemingly to redirect requests for sites (e.g. www.google.com) to a site of the trojan author's choosing.
It uses a known flaw in IE that can be fixed by visiting Windows Update and/or with bang-up-to-date virus signatures.

Good resources there Dynamoo for digging into the new trojan viruses. Amazing how the overseas affiliate programmer types devise these redirect drive-by scripts to hijack systems for click income.

Thanks for the heads up, Dynamoo! I updated Norton after reading this to make sure I was as current as possible.
Wouldn't it be nice if the people who think these things up would do something constructive and useful with their abilities? They could probably find a cure for cancer, or Alzheimer's, or something that would be helpful to mankind. Instead they just make trouble for everyone.
