    I haven't had a business card in 6 years!
Do I really have to have one to get in? (I get the photo id.)

I don't think... I don't remember being asked to show a business card when I got my badge at the table in Vegas. Still... you could throw together a Word document with some basic business card text, print out ten of them on a 8.5x11 sheet of paper and cut them up... that should qualify you to get in the door at least

I did what HecticDMC suggested in order to get into adtech because I had read that no one without a business card would get in -- then when I arrived with my newly created business cards I found out that what adtech was really interested in was my driver's license
    [maybe the Summit is similar?]

Okay I can handle a word document...(somewhere there's some heavy duty paper, might have to resort to yellow construction paper) just one more thing on the todo list.

Thank you guys. I've been in non-corporate America for so long, I don't remember all the required hoopla.

Perforated paper suitable for business cards is usually for sale at any store that sells office supplies/stationery.

Here are easy to follow directions from Microsoft using Publisher:

    You're a doll Rhia7!

I'm trying to get out of this without spending any $$$. (My Yankee frugality). Since I don't use a printer, ever, I'll probably have to go to the public library; or my sister is a crafter, she's bound to have something in her many drawers of supplies.

Make sure you have a driver's license and you will be fine.

This is to confirm identity, since some people have tried to sneak in on the names of others.

If you buy perforated paper for business cards (they sell it at supermarkets like Stop & Shop, it's available at stores such as Target & CVS etc... -- it's a common product, it's not a secret product) you can use that perforated paper with a computer's regular printer -- so just ask any friend or relative with a computer & printer if you can their equipment.

You can [still] give out your business cards to people/reps. of interest.

I found at adtech that I really only needed my driver's license to get in.
The admin at adtech took the information off of my license and encoded it into a card I wore around my neck at the show. Representatives were able to scan that card for my personal data (i.e. if I wanted to sign up for a magazine).

Calling a business card "hoopla", made me laugh. Love that attitude, I share it (though I do have biz cards).

My neighbor Lenny thinks I'm unemployed... he asked what kind of job I had and I told him I don't currently have one... something about that "currently" that makes people think you're looking for one.

Anyhow, Aunt Lily, I encourage you to be creative with your business cards.
    :-)

Whatever you do, work on that title, don't be all corporate on us.

    Suggestions for you:

    Wife Beater Beater
Web Marketing Director (finally, we've found the darn WMD that Bush was talking about)

List your name as... Hugh Japhiliot.

Wait, you're a woman... how about... Mary Zelling.

    Or... Ophelia Trafique.

Even if y don't need the business cards to get into the summit, they're handy for dropping in for door prizes / drawings. Most of the booths had a form you could fill out to enter, but the business card gets you through the line faster.

Also, make sure to use a secondary email and phone number to help maintain your privacy. I signed up for a voicemail/fax number for about $10 a year and a gmail address on the business cards I hand out.
