I logged into my adsense account today only to be greeted by a terms and conditions page (that I had to agree to - again). Anyway, went to the FAQs section to read again and the bit about affiliate links being okay isn't there anymore...so does it mean google's changed the rules and affiliate links are no longer okay? I have banner ads and in context affiliate links on most of my pages with adsense...

I know I've asked this before but it seems like google's changed the rules all of a sudden?

Don't hold your breath out for Google's adsense to not change it's terms. After they get raped from the pool of shank affiliates adept at using click cheat scripts you can bet their rules will change.

Copying someones content pages rich in high dollar PPCSE keywords will be the new rage for the ticks for clicks crowd.

This was taken from the Google Adsense Program Policies:

    Competitive Ads
We do not permit AdWords ads to be published on web pages that also contain what could be considered competing ads. This would include all content-targeted ads as well as text-based ads. Text-based ads, for this situation, can be loosely defined as ads that mimic AdWords ads or appear to be associated with AdWords ads on your site. We do allow affiliate or limited-text links.

So they still allow affiliate links

This has been covered several times before... the key words are "content targeted" meaning that the ads are specifically targeted to the content your site via their crawling of your site... It does seem that they've clarified that section a bit...I don't remember the last sentence being there...

Well looks like it's time to pull out my writing 101 course and brush up on my skills and start adding more "content" a bad word according to Leader.
But what the heck, if the money is there then content may not turn into such a bad word after all.

I still believe that content will continue to play an increasingly important role in SEO in the future.

This is just one instance where content does pay!

Reminds me of an old addage ..."When the law is against you, argue the facts. When the facts are against you, argue the law. When they’re both against you, stand on the table and scream for bloody justice."

By the time Google wiggles out from the hole the Ad whores dug them ...they will be tarnished and damaged goods.

I like the part where they give you 1 hour to remove all the js code after they boot you.

I found their program to be the friendlest ad program ever. As expected (which is why i have two adsense logins), they asked me to remove their ads off of one of my controversial sites.

I had created it as a seperate account, thinking they might pull a CJ and just boot me and keep $400. Nope. Instead they asked politely, I removed, they said no problem I would still be paid what I earned and were more than willing to discuss the matter and fully explain their side and discuss my other content sites without getting into childish name calling as the CJ rep did.

I think this program has not tarnished them in anyway but is a wake up call on how to treat publishers.

Gotta echo Chez Noir's point... Google sent me a message taking issue with an ad right below theirs, but recanted after I explained that it was a text ad to another part of my own site.

Very polite reply thanking me on my own pro-active efforts to maintain compliance...

Additionally, I have had vigorous debates with the Google Adwords Team, over an issue whereby I still think I am right, but in the end, they have always been very professional, and polite in their response.

    Unyielding on that issue, unfortunately...

Finally plucked up enough courage to go ask google about the site and what a relief, they came back with the reply that it was in compliance and everything's cool.

Wait for that attitude to change as those Adword clients start getting those huge bills and investigate how a sleezy affiliate site with 200 monthly visitors racks up 5000 clicks for expensive terms. They'll probably also get a drive-by install of WhenU/Gator and a porn dialer as a bonus for their snooping effort.

In AdSense Land, "content" is no longer a swear word. With King Revenue as its escort, Content can have admittance to my server with no more than a wink and a nod from the bouncer.

Revenue still is King, though. If his "affair" with Maiden Content ends--so does her presence among my sites.

None of that's necessary to get 5000 clicks, just stick AS on a bunch of low-traffic sites and combined they're a high traffic Machine.

And Google is already onto the toolbars and dialers--they're specifically prohibited! So at least they've been *thinking* of what the undesireables might pull...

    Yeah, I think you're right.

It's too bad some people can't see beyond stealing since there's so much $0 content available where the writer only asks for a link back, and other content that's nominally priced--there's no need to steal any!

I feel vindicated as that's the first time Leader has ever acknowledged my presence here.
