Can anyone tell me how to get their IP address so I can report this to the authorities.

I know how to block them if they have a static IP with .htaccess.

Should I call the FBI when I get the culprits IP addy?

    This sucks.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The way the logs are set uo i cant find it because the logs will not record the same IP twice.

Anyone have any idea how to prevent such an attack in the future?

I'm sure the FBI can assist you in obtaining the info they need.

Are they hacking or running a DOS attack? For a DOS attack, ask your provider for help, you cannot stop it at the box, you need to stop it upstream.

If it has been hacked - ask your provider or datacenter for help. The FBI will just laugh. If the DC or provider won't help, then hire a security person to take a look, you can try webhostingtalk.com and see who provides this service.

But if you have been compromised - they will most likely say to wipe the box and start fresh, making sure everything is patched. If you box has been compromised there is a very good chance they have added multiple back doors in case you catch one, they will have another entry point.

As always patch, turn off unused services, block any port you can and still function.
