Thumbs up AC Lens Walk For Autism
    Hi all,

I hope this is ok to post here...if not, feel free to move it. AC Lens will be participating in Autism Speaks, Walk Now For Austism. For those not familiar with autism, it's a brain development disorder in young children.

    You can read more here:

    Wikipedia - Autism
    Autism Society
National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke
    Autism Speaks

Our team name is Jordan's Journeymen after the child of one of our employees. Jordan was diagnosed with autism at the age of 4 and he will be 14 in August.

My personal goal is $2K which I think is reasonable. If any fellow ABW'ers want to help me get there, you can donate here.

If you're in Ohio and want to join the fun, you're more than welcome to be a part of our team. Here's more information on the walk:

    Sunday, October 12, 2008
Value City Arena at The Jerome Schottenstein Center
The Ohio State University - Columbus, OH

    Thanks

    Bob

I've just been notified AC Lens will be matching all or part of donations collected for the walk.

We have just over a month to go so lets make our executives write a big check.

    Thanks

Actually it is a neurological impairment that is evident in about 1 in 150 people nationwide ( not just children!). Not sure about worldwide statistics.. but that is a ballpark for the USA... Both of my kids are on the autism spectrum...

Good job doing the walk! YAY! It will benefit many people

    Hi Anne,

Thanks for the additional info. I wasn't extremely familiar with Autism until one of our employee's suggested the walk. As more information crosses my desk, I realize that education is just as important as donations...it's amazing how many people know very little about it when I bring up the walk in conversations.

    while
theres alot of theory's going around about autism and it's counter part aspergers. But as someone who knows people with autism, and aspergers and done alot of research, it's based on different factors, neorological as the above stated, genetic components (such as parents who have adhd, ptsd, etc) and is going though severe stress during pregnacy and life which I believe more then anything about autism, and the thoughts of vaccines which has no evidence to back it up.

Anyway good going on supporting autism, I do not really support that organization for many reasons but at least your trying, and that says something

We had a great turnout for the event. 19 people walked for Autism this past Sunday and although we didn't hit our financial goals, I think everyone came away with a little more knowledge and new found appreciation for the kids, parents, and other family members who deal with Autism on a daily basis.

I thank all of you who supported us, especially Haiko for sticking this at the top of the forum for so long.

I'll have pics of the walk on our blog later this week.

    Thanks again!

    Bob
