34% Taxes & Surcharges on Local Phone Service
Looking over my local phone bill from Embarq (Sprint) and I noticed that the Taxes and Surcharges are 34% of the price of the local phone service.

    Standard Home Phone Lite..............................$31.95
    Taxes and Surcharges................................... $10.88

I guess it's always been this way, but wow that's a pretty high percentage of taxes and surcharges, whatever the hell surcharges are. Maybe that's normal with the various local phone providers.

regard to Telecommunications Relay Service, national number
portability, and federal regulatory fees. The surcharge is assessed on

    international charges.
    Local 911 $0.00 - $0.70 per line

My phone bill was running around $65.00 per month without long distance calls on it using AT&T because of all of the extra charges that they added to it every month.

I talked to the cable company where I get TV and the internet. They also offered internet telephone with free long distance anywhere in the U.S. and all of the extras that the phone company offered - caller ID, call waiting, call blocking, etc.

It added $4.00 per month to the package that I already had with them. I have had it for over a year now and have never had any problems with it. There are no taxes or anything that cost extra. Just $4.00 a month every month.

Removed my home phone line over a year ago. No need with a cell phone to have a landline phone.
