IE keeps throwing me out of New Posts
Is anyone else having this problem? I haven't tried it with any other browser.

    Cannot open "new posts"
I kept getting this message when I tried to open "xxx New Posts" on the top bar. That's where I usually check for new posts.

"Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site http://forum.abestweb.com/search.php?searchid=xxxxxxx
    Operation Aborted"

(I replaced the number with XXXXXXX because I'm not sure if I should post it)

But I have no problem to get to other parts of the forum. Is there something wrong?

Edit: Just noticed that the "New Posts" bar is flashing. Tried to clean the cookies and re-open the site, still got the same message.

I guess it is too late for getting responses...

Other than going through "new posts" link, I don't even know where to start reading the forum

Maybe it is bed time for me now, hopefully tomorrow everything will be back to normal...

Same here with IE, however FireFox works fine. Several other users have noted this also in this thread: http://forum.abestweb.com/showthread.php?t=108536

Merged the threads... and yes Haiko knows. Not likely to get fixed in the middle of a Friday night though, and yes if you use Firefox it works fine.

Same here but my problem's much worse than not being able to read ABW posts with IE. Now I can't open any html pages in IE including pages on my own hard drive that I open with Front Page.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem? I like Firefox well enough but I have to be able to use Front Page and right now I can't do that.

Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site file://c:\..\..
    Operation aborted.

Found out what the problem is, it's SiteMeter, what ABW uses:

"A number of web sites that use SiteMeter tracking code to monitor the number of visitors to their site are reporting that the code is causing Internet Explorer browsers to crash when users visit their sites.

The problem appears to be affecting IE 5.5, 6.0 and 7.0. Internet surfers using IE to access a site that has SiteMeter tracking it receive a message saying the site cannot be loaded and "operation aborted." The issue seems to have begun late afternoon Friday."

    http://blog.wired.com/27bstroke6/200...tes-using.html

    http://www.nwprogressive.org/weblog/...bsites-to.html

So if you're using SiteMeter on your sites, it's probably having problems as well.

"A number of sites are reporting that once they remove the SiteMeter code, the problem disappears and their page loads fine in IE."

Hey Trust, thanks for the info. Now that I know what's causing the problem I can stop worrying about it. I do use Sitemeter on my web pages which is why they were crashing in FP.

Thanks Trust. Now, I can stop trying to fix it from this end....since it is not on this end.

One workaround until it gets fixed: When it gives the error message, just hit ESC quickly a few times and it'll leave the page.

The workaround doesn't work for me (IE 7). I hit the Esc button and the page goes to "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage".

Use Frontpage Explorer's "replace" function found in the top "edit" menu to globally replace a section in the SiteMeter script code.

look at code and you'll see something like this URL in 3 places ... src="http://s14.sitemeter.com/js/counter.js?site=s14suspenders" just replace http://s14.sitemeter.com with <b>**http://s14.sitemeter.com</b> and my Frontpage 2003 has a replace all pages option and I checked off "find in source code box". Your URL will differ based upon your own site meter code.

This will replace the offending blocked URL with a non-functioning HTML URL call in all three places inside a few minutes. Took about 5 minutes to make www.suspenders.com (view source and see sitemeter code changes at bottom of every page) display all pages. Once Sitemeter idiots have it fixed your reverse the "replace" function to get back your original sitemeter URL calls.

For non-frontpage users with Sitemeter coding on all pages just Google for a free text editor like "TextPad". It easily can perform same replace function on your HTML local files... then FTP to server.

Appears that www.sitemeter.com has been shut off so the sitemeter codes on thousands of websites no longer display this draconian message. Here I spent a lot of time to remove/block the sitemeter code and now someone there brightly just pull the server plug so some datamining butthole can try and save his new precious spyware app upgrade from a mass perminent removal push. I'll put the proper URL code traffic tracking back later, once they get their act together.
