    Inactive Linkshare Affs Cost Merchants?
I wrote an email to a merchant about terminating inactive affiliates. I didn't expect a response, but I got one and they said that they have to pay a fee for impressions so it does hurt them when affiliates aren't active.

I've never heard of that before. Is that true?

If an affiliate is inactive where do the impressions come from?

    LOL.

I think people equate no sales with inactive.

That's really interesting. So it really isn't "pay for performance" if this is true. And the emails should be written as "ineffective" not "inactive." It would be good to know what merchants consider a good click through rate and conversion rate.

Thanks for posting, any more on this would be appreciated!

Tell the AM you're going to remove the impression pixel from your links.
I didn't know Linkshare was using impressions to bill their merchants. Pretty dumb. I should get a raise from my merchants. I saved them a ton of money.

So that little 1x1 image after the links is a tracking pixel? And I don't have to have it? The things I learn every day.

Every once in a while, someone comes up with a truly useful, and yet simple solution to a problem. Nice! Give yourself a raise Z.

With the impression, the merchant is paying as they opted for Linkshare to host the pictures. It's an Ala Carte service.
The merchant can host the pictures and not pay for impression.

So it's just the tracking pixel for the picture that I need to remove and not the text link?

Aunt Lily a typical link from LinkShare is like that:
    Code:
    http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=myid&offerid=xxxx.10000005&type=3&subid=0" >My LinkShare Link</a><IMG border=0 width=1 height=1 src="http://ad.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/sho...type=3&subid=0
You have to keep the first part to track sales & clicks: http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/...type=3&subid=0
The second part tracks the impressions, http://ad.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/show?id=myid&bids=xxxx.10000005&type=3&subid=0
It may be of interest for some merchants to see the kind of branding they're getting, but, ... we're not paid on branding.

Eric is correct, you have two options as a merchant to host the images or have LS do it. With the advent of cheap hosting why would a merchant pay a network to host images?

I was told the same thing by a Linkshare merchant years ago.
