August 5th, 2008, 03:05 PM #1Announcing Sonny Liston!
It's with a huge smile and a "sit. Sit. I SAID SIT!" that I introduce ABW to the newest member of my family!!!
His name is Sonny Liston, and as you may have guessed he's an old boxer.
We got Sonny (his prison name was "Yogi") from our local SPCA where he was a resident since March. They saved him from a local kill shelter. He's 10 years old. Appears to have come from a decent home because he's housebroken, trained in basic obedience, very well socialized, fairly good with other dogs and cats, and is a real snuggler.
Although we already have our hands full, Stephanie and I really wanted to give a home to an older, loving yet "unadoptable" pet who could enjoy his/her last days with a loving family, not cooped up in a cage.
Isn't he adorable?
I've also attached a "motivational poster" that gave me a chuckle last week...

Aww He looks like a winner. Bet he is soooooo grateful to be in a loving home. My only problem would be knowing his age and his breed I would be counting the months but as you are evidently more mature than I am you will be able to enjoy your time with him. After all it isn't the quantity but the quality of life that really matters.

Thanks Terri! Like I mentioned above, we have our hands full with our other (much younger) dogs. To be honest, this was more about helping out SPCA and giving the ol' man a good home to spend his remaining days than it was about getting a new pet.

I've got a funny story.
We just got back from Belize. The lady who owns the condo under the one we stayed at owned a Maltese that she and her husband named Freddie Couples.
While we were there our daughter fell in love with Freddie Couple's daughter named Meeka. So, when we got home my wife decided we needed to get a Maltese puppy for our daughter and we named her Meeka.
Although she is not Freddie Couple's child : )I would rather live my life as if there is a God and die
to find out there isn't, than live my life as if there
isn't and die to find out there is.

Congratulations Joe (I can still call you Joe, right?) Good of you to do what you are doing here. Ol' Sonny is a lucky boy!
BTW, this old guy would like a place to enjoy his last days too. I'm figuring I have about 30 left in me, so get my room ready!
Thank you for your good hearts stud.

@ Haiko - Thanks, man! It just seemed to fit. I think his old name was something similar to Sonny b/c he answers to it. Either that or he's a genius. Time will tell.
@visitourmall - How funny. I love silly pet names. Our bouvier's full name is Senor Ernesto del Robles, but we call him Ernie.
@ SuperCool - Consider it done!
@ Lox - So far he's teaching the youngsters that random humping is not ok all the time.
@ Alan - Would you prefer to call me something else? Sonny and Ernie and SuperCool are already taken...do you have 30 left in dog years or people years?
Thanks again all!!!
