Attempting to educate myself, the merchant, of unethical affiliates and practices
Hello! I'm attempting to educate myself on unethical affiliate marketing and unethical affiliates. I would like to know who they are, if we have any, and what they are doing. If I do have unethical affiliates, I would like to remove them so that ethical affiliates can be rewarded for their hard work and so that I can attract more good affiliates. I know that I am treading into deep waters because I don't want to just go on hearsay. I don't want to make any rash decisions and remove affiliates that may actually be good affiliates and perhaps a top competitor. As an affiliate manager, how may I investigate this issue and my affiliates? Currently, I have 3, 134 affiliates in CJ. (We've been on CJ for many many years).
Does anyone find these numbers suspicious? The first column is the Sales, 2nd is impressions, and 3rd is Click thru rate (which anything over 100% is impossible)

    17 2 98,300.00
    64 3 15,300.00
    3 2 6,950.00
    4 9 5,700.00
    3 8 4,337.50
    3 3 4,300.00
    0 1 3,900.00
    0 18 2,827.78
    8 9 2,522.22
    0 1 1,600.00

Don't read anything into click thru rate percentages. Click thru rates are a meaningless statistic, since many large affiliates (including myself) do not post the impression tracking pixels with their text links.

Also as far as I know, *** is one of the good guys.

I thought the AMs had a private forum so that no accusations would be put out there without investigation. I don't have a clue about who *** is but this shouldn't be out there without some checking.

What TI Master said. The impression number is often meaningless, so percentages above 100% by themselves aren't a cause for alarm.

    Hi,

Make sure you review the Parasiteware forums and look for known culprits that may be in your program.

I do not mean to offend you, and I may be leaping to assumptions here, but if you've been on CJ for many years, and aren't fully aware of parasites and unethical practices, it is quite likely that some of these parasitic platforms and such are members of your program.

SAS (ShareaSale) does a pretty good job of pre-weeding out the parasitic programs for you, CJ... not so much.

Read through the forms and check for these affiliates in your program. The results may shock you.

It's nice to see you here, and that you are concerned about this kind of activity, good on ya!!!

    Paul

I have just removed CouponMountain & Ebates
Hello! I am not offended at all, but rather appreciate your response and candidness. I started managing our affiliate program in January this year, and we are making our best efforts to remove all parasites and unethical affiliates and offer an honest and supportive program. And yes, I did find some parasites! I will continue to read these forums and look for parasites on a periodic basis. Affiliates should be fairly compensated for their hard work.

    Have a beautiful day,
    Linda
