China has indeed done an excellent job, not only in total medals, but as a host for these Olympic Games (Thank you China!). I always feel a bit sad when the games come to an end and the torch is extinguished.

It's been a great Olympics. Just got finished watching the US win the Gold in basketball, Spain played them pretty close at the end.

    Congratulations, China!!

Russia did well. Could've been better, but we'll be back next time...

Trust, any chance the thread can be renamed into "Olympics Closing" or something similar? TY.

I've really enjoyed watching the Olympics the past couple of weeks and hate to see them close as well. I am looking forward to the closing ceremonies though, if they are anywhere near as spectacular as the opening ceremonies it will be a great show.

Congratulations to China for a great competition and for being such a great competitor.

GB had their best olympics in about 100 years, some amazing results from team in areas no one expected to see medals. Roll on London 2012!

I see 5 or 6 of Chinas Golds being taken away in the next coming weeks to months maybe even years.

I also find it sad that china decided to arrest two 70 year old women who applied to hold a protest in he designated protest zones. The chinese said they were arrested for reeducation.

They also denied all of the other applications saying that they were handled. I wonder if those others were arrested too.

Also sad that the press didn't have as much freedom as we may think, I remember reading an article from the opening day, where members of the media were standing near a window watching the fireworks a Chinee soilder went to their office and said get away from the Window there are guns pointed at you lol. Kinda scary.

Those 5 young Chinese Gymnasts that the rest of the world are saying were underage?......

As far as the rest of what HardwareGeek has to say...I didn't hear anything about these things. There is always a degree of "negative news" surrounding any Olympics and host country. Some people always have to find "some wrong".

Don't sweat it. Overall, China is to be applauded for their handling of the Olympic Games 2008!

lovekanewangbo, you should be truly proud of your country.

    Once again, thank you China!

You mean you haven't head that maybe 5 of the Chinese female gymnaist were underage and did not qualify for the olympics? Chinas own documents show their age as 13 and 14, only new documents show them as the required age of 16. The IOC is ivestigating.

    HardwareGeek,

And, all other countries that have hosted the Olympics over the years...winter or summer...are perfect? There is ALWAYS controversy surrounding the host country and the Olympics. It MAKES NEWS! Just do a little research of past games.

Why are you choosing to dump on lovekanewangbo and China over these Olympics? Overall, these Olympic games were stellar....from every point.

I never said their all perfect but I never heard of an obvious attempt to cheat such as that and creating false documents, or people being arrested for wanting to protest.

BTW I do think the opening ceremonies were great and the closing one just as good.

I also think its disgusting that countries like the US, Russia, Great Britian, and others have face tracked citizenships for athletes from other countries just to compete in the olympics. I think that's cheating too but the IOC doesn't.
