Limiting PM Privileges -- How to?
I am adding a forum to one of my sites and I can't figure out how to disallow PM privileges until they have reached a certain number of posts. It seems my only options are to totally turn them off or on.

Is there a specific type of bulletin board that has this feature built in or does it need to be programmed? The one offered by my host is phpBB. I don't know a thing about forums so any suggestions are appreciated.

    Thanks,
    bettylou

You limit it via usergroup rights, no matter what the BB.

Less than X posts can't us PMs
More than X posts can PM

    Thanks Haiko, that was fast!

Sorry, I know I am being kinda dense about this but, I see where I can put a user into a group. And I can find where you set the group permissions. There is a tab that says Private Messages. Under this tab you can choose from Yes, No, and Never. Do you have to individually move a user into a group when they hit the designated number of posts?

Not dense, just not knowing ... not a problem.

The way it works is that you set up different usergroups (ie. newbie, member, super member etc (Like here at ABW)) you do not allow the newbie the member usergroups to have PM rights. Once they graduate to the super member status based on post count they will automatically have PM rights because you allowed the user group super members to have pms prior to. It's all automatic and happens based on post count, you set these all these permissions per usergroup based on post count.
    Continued Success,

Yeah! The light bulb moment has occurred.

Thanks Haiko, sometimes us blondes need a chart to see the light!

Thanks for sharing that - I had the same problem on one of my forums, and am able to fix this now.

Haiko posted an example, not the actually numbers for ABW. It's on the rules pages that it takes 250 posts to get sig rights and pm priviledges here.
