New Orleans mulls evacuation as Gustav looms
New Orleans mulls evacuation as Gustav looms

I hate to post these storm panics, but they say it can get to a Cat 3 even 4. If you are near those states please start preparing now. Many of us have been there and New Orleans knows, be safe everyone.

Just what we need and this is happening just near the 3 year anniversary of Katrina. The local news media is talking about the evacuation starting Friday.

We have already gotten calls from friends offering us a safe haven, again!

Just watched the local New Orleans news. Gustav is shifting to the west away from New Orleans-for now.

Hopefully it chooses a western track. The Weather Channel said it wouldn't get as strong if it went to the West. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone in the possible line of the storm right now.

Looks like it's coming your way Bumpaw. Local tv says it headed for Vermillion Bay.

Yep and they have moved landfall out almost 24 hours. Gas is getting scarce already with lines at local stations. My son-in-law is buying a generator, but I refuse. It could still be anybody's storm so it makes it hard to plan. Our main worry is wind as we are above past tidal surges.

I heard that it's going a bit to the West but it's still a flip of the coin until it hits the Gulf

When I saw that graphic the first time the other day, I thought that it was just the tracking graphic of that day, but I just notice that this hurricane tracking graphic is auto-updated automatically.

That's good to know, because at least we can keep an eye on that thing from here, if we're not watching it live on the TV news.

After Katrina, I don't really want to think about any of these animals anymore, but looking at that tracking graphic, and listening to what they say on the Radio and TV., it sure looks like Gustav might be one of the bad ones to hit this year.

Right now it looks like it's heading on an straight line to New Orleans, but let's hope that something happens between now and then, and that where ever it lands, that by the time it lands, it's not that strong as they're predicting today.

I'm going to be feeling whats left of this Tuesday/Wednesday in my area. They have already closed all the schools in this area for Tuesday and Wednesday, and planning for winds around 40-50 mph with very heavy rain. Hopefully I won't loose my electricity.

Bumpaw hope you are doing ok. We were able to get back late yesterday afternoon from forced evacuation and unlike Katrina found no damage to the house. We'll have a lot of yard work from tree limbs, etc. The rest of the family will be returning home today from Jackson, MS and Destin, FL where they evacuated to.

Thanks to the Knight and Baker families of Meridian, MS for putting us up and feeding us as we were glued to the tv, again, hoping for the best. This was the 3rd time they had found shelter and provide us with food when we had to flee our home in suburban New Orleans due to approaching hurricanes.

I flew to New Orleans on Friday the 29th. I thought we would have plenty of time to stay for the weekend and leave before the storm came. The hotel put a note under our door in the middle of the night Friday night saying that they are closing, they don't know when the airport will close and no rental cars are being rented out.

We called the airlines to get the first flight out and every flight to every city out of New Orleans on Saturday was booked. We ended up going to the airport and got on a flight back to Orlando on stand-by.

While we were waiting for our flight we saw Federal Air Marshals walking up and down the airport carrying machine guns. I haven't ever seen that before and I have been to some pretty shady airports!
