I found the following article at bravenet news:
Protect your Email Address
Spammers use a number of methods to collect email addresses off the Web. One common method is to use "harvesting software" to extract email addresses from websites. These types of software spider the Internet for the sole purpose of finding and collecting email addresses.
The simplest solution to prevent your email address from being harvested from your website is to remove all email addresses from all of your web pages. This is the most extreme solution, but if you need to get your visitors to se nd you information, then use a form (these cannot be harvested by spammers as long as the email address is not part of the form itself - the Bravenet email form service is ideal for this purpose). If you don't put your email addresses directly on your site, then the spammers cannot get it using their harvesters.
And then they included the following script to pervent harvesting:
var first = 'ma';
var second = 'il';
var third = 'to:';
// example: user554554
var address = 'tips';
// example: hotmail
var domain = 'bravenet';
var ext = 'com';

Good advice. On the bottom of the frontpage on my site and most high traffic entry pages on client sites I put the "tower of babel" link that corrupts the e-mail robot scrapers collected database. Doesn't fool the craftest of e-mail scapers but plays havoc with those 29.95 scripts.
