I have been on one of those planes. The tire exploded upon take off. i was still a kid and boy, did I enjoy it as the 45 min flight took 4 hrs. I think my parents were very concerned. Even got to see the airport fire trucks. Story turned out OK as I am still here.

    Prayers are with them...

Tires are expected to explode now and again on all aircraft. That's why all larger aircraft have multiple tires (including nose wheels).

They were never in any danger.

A Black Hawk National Guard Copter on it way to the gulf coast to help hurricane victims had a hydralic line burst as it was flying over Murray today and managed to make an emergency landing in a grass field behind Burger King right in the middle of town here without anyone getting hurt.

It had a crew of 4 on it and I bet the crew members sure love the pilot right now. He was able to land it without a crash.

Another copter is flying in parts and a maintance crew to fix it.

Wow! Copters are scary. They drop more or less like a rock when they lose lift.
Too bad it happened behind Burger King rather than behind...

About 10 years ago I was flying from Chicago back to LA with a changeover in St. Louis, and as we took off from St. Louis, a tire blew. It sounded like an explosion and there was a horrible smell. We returned to St. Louis, and they parked the plane next to a row of windows in the terminal, and dozens of us, over a Scotch or three, watched them change the tire in 20 minutes, then scratch their heads for 4 hours, while they waited for a part to replace something else that had broken. They finally got the part, put it on in 5 minutes, and off we went.

At least they let you off the plane. Years ago we sat in a plane at the gate in Indianapolis while they repaired some mysterious malady. We ended up sitting for five hours in that plane. They wouldn't let us off because they thought the repair would be completed at any time...

My family and I were on that exact same flight (AA 1586, LAX->YYZ) just last Friday! Glad to see they landed safely, and I'm glad I didn't have to go through that kind of experience...

Now try reading headlines like these when your husband is a pilot!
I know, I know, he is safer in the air than on the road, but it is still scary. Even if it's not him, the other pilots, FOs and flight attendants are a very close knit family and it really brings things to heart.

I had one of those flights where I sat on the runway for 4 hours in Chicago. We were headed to Europe so it was a KLA plane and they didn't have ice for drinks. It was late June...uhhhgg.

Then, just this July I was coming back from Nashville and my plane had a blowout when we landed.

You can always tell the difference between pilots that used to fly cargo planes and pilots that use to land on carriers. The ones that land like carrier pilots always hit the deck pretty hard. The tire blew and then made that same horrible sound that your car tire makes as you drive on the flat. Loud, but I guess the thought never crossed my mind that I was in any danger.

I'm glad they were safe. One thing you know for sure....those pilots will do anything to get you home safely because their lives are on the line too.
