    Congratulations!

Sure wish there was such a thing as a gas-sipping hybrid vehicle that could hold our family of seven!

    Enjoy your new car.

WM, have you checked out the Chevy Tahoe hybrid? As I recall it got good marks from Consumer Reports.

No, I hadn't seen the report on the Tahoe yet. But I'll definitely check it out.

We've kind of resigned ourselves to minivans for the forseeable future. We used to drive an 8-seater SUV, but everytime the kids got into or out of it, there was MAJOR stress. No, not the gas mileage. No, it wasn't the rollover factors. It was something much more likely to happen...

Just imagine kids aged 10, 8, 6, 5 & 2 opening the door to an SUV. How likely are they to think about dinging a car next to them? (Hardly) Consequently, every entrance and exit from that vehicle was fraught with a frantic parental "WATCH THE DOOR!"

Eventually we resigned ourselves to the lower stress levels of transporting our Fab 5 in an uncool, already dinged, non-descript minivan...yeah, but I do dream of a new car like yours someday. Enjoy every minute of it.

Ah, see I'm childless. I always wondered why minivans had those sliding doors. Now I get it!

Thanks for the good wishes. We have a 7 year old Subaru and a 17 year old Nissan and -- well the Nissan still runs but there's a trick to unlocking it and a trick to starting it and a trick to shifting gears and I won't drive it except in an emergency. Oh, and it's so low to the ground that I have to throw myself into it and haul myself out of it. And the seat belt hits me right in the neck and chafes. (I hate that damn car but don't tell hubby.)

Yeah, until I experienced how kids open and ding doors, I never would've guessed how beneficial the invention sliding doors proved to be -for everyone who has ever parked next to a minivan...

You learn something new every day, glad me and the Fab 5 could be of service...

Funny you should mention green, Haiko -- that was our first choice -- although Toyota calls it Silver Pine Mica. (Yeah, I know.)

Anyway, the waiting list for a Prius was quoted to us in June as three to six months, but if we could be flexible about the color we could probably get one quicker. So when the salesman called today to say they had a Prius, with our option preferences (loaded, except for leather interior) but it was in the Magnetic Grey color, we were happy to jump on it. We're picking it up on Monday!!!

And yeah, we are a couple of eggheads, but we have many redeeming qualities in spite of this affliction.

The Grey will hide the dirt better

Edited to add: not that you'd keep a dirty car, but certain colors do hide regular street dirt better than others (I have a black car and have to budget time or money for car washes).

BTW, I really did think you'd pick the green one

What can I say, it is a GREEN machine.

Here's an article about what your car color choice says about you.

    Well it's funny, anyway.

Green or not, but that nice little car looks like a ready to eat avocado.

If you ever need a tow, your little Prius will fit nicely in the way back of my gas guzzling, bigger than life Custom Cruiser station wagon. LOL

Enjoy the new ride. Hope it's all you expect.

Rexie, I cannot picture you in a station wagon. My mind just refuses to go there. I woulda thought you'd have a cute little sports car.

Sal, the color in that picture isn't very accurate. The car is kind of like a metallic celery color. But I see what you mean about the avocado. It does look quite tasty.

I love my monster. It's got more power than moat other cars on the road, is a tank that has protected my kids in more than one accident and I can be pretty anonymous behind all the steel. It's a classic OLD station wagon but I'll be selling it soon for a smaller car only because I can't park this beast easily.
    Peace,

Eric, it could have been much longer. We were originally told to expect to wait three to six months. Fortunately I hit it off with the manager of the dealership and was given the unofficial title of "one of Gary's people." It pays to be nice to people. (I had no idea when I spoke to Gary on the phone that he was the big boss. I didn't find out until we met him in person.)

When the salesman called Saturday he told me that they are currently taking deposits for the Prius with an expected delivery wait of 8 to 12 months. As gas prices go up these cars are more and more in demand and factory production can't come close to keeping up.
