    Google in January 2001
In honor of their 10th birthday, they set this up, their oldest available index from Jan. 2001. So you can see what was ranking for anything back in the day

Wow. This is actually pretty cool.

The competition on some keyphrases was 6-8 times less... And some of my oldest websites are not even showing there. Just one is. :-)

    How very nice:
    - In a search for "web advertising," my site came up in position #5
    - In a search for "California probate" or "california estate planning," my former web site (sold) is #1
    - In a search for "pay per click advertising networks," the #2 listing is a pirated copy of a page from another former web site of mine
    - In a search for "Web Advertising Guide," my former site is #1
    - In a search for "Barnes Noble spam" my site is #1

No, the most fun is the sites themselves. My sites came up nice and high, I liked the web back then

Going thru some searches and see lots of domains available, can go register them now. Do you think the whole age of the domain thing with Google isn't valid if the domain is available?

Sounds like the Twilight Zone. Sort of like entering the fourth dimension. All your traffic will be blurry shapes...

Absolutely cool to see some of my current sites having the same relative positions they did back then. It put a big smile on my face to see lot of my "old" page one results still hanging in there.

What did they do, dust off the old servers and plug them in?

    sigh. the good old days.

I suppose if you allow the alexa archive bot to spider your site, you could also view what the webpage looks like.

Google must have something big planned for their birthday. They haven't announced yet when they are actually celebrating.... any day now.

I dunno. I found I can feel good about my websites, site building skills, etc., NOW when I looked at the one or two sites I had up THEN.

Makes me feel like blushing at how BAD those sites looked. LOL!

If Google was able to bring back the old index, right now, I'll have a possibility to buy back by own bank. No kidding. I've so many keywords listed in 1st position.
It was the good old time.

Wow, that was fun and weird and weirdly fun. I checked for a three-word search phrase that I ranked well for back then, and found that I had four of the top ten listings! Apparenly almost all of my competitors dumped their web sites somewhere along the line. So while I'm still a crappy web site designer I WIN because I have been persistent!

Next year will be my tenth anniversary as a webmaster. And it all started because one Super Bowl weekend I got bored and decided to play with HTML.
