Question Oktoberfest - Has Anyone Been?
This year Germany celebrates their 175th Oktoberfest. They are running it from 20 Sept through 5 Oct this year, and it so happened that we'll be flying into Germany this Friday (3 October), on our way from Russia to the U.S.

We're doing a stopover in Germany this year too, and have already planned a trip to Bavaria (Nürnberg) on 4-5 October, which means that we'll be in the right place at the right time (for the Oktoberfest, of course).

    Has anyone ever been?

Brian Clark from CopyBlogger just returned from Oktoberfest. He said it was a blast.

I've been there many times, always in Muenchen. It's one of the most amazing event. I'm a beer drinker (Spaten is still my favorite) and I like German food. Don't get me started on that. First, I dont have a good memory and then I'm not know how I was able to get back to my hotel room. I'm not even sure I went back to my room every night.

I was at an Oktoberfest at the German Club in the town I grew up in. Does that count?

And if you need some funny Oktoberfest t-shirts drop me a PM. I have a couple that are huge sellers.

We missed Oktoberfest the two times we were in Bavaria. But we did enjoy a local, small town Beer Fest one weekend. And that was a blast. So Oktoberfest has to be totally awesome. Go for it.

Agreeing with Zeus, I can affirm that German food is great. And, if you like beer, being in Bavaria is akin to being in beer heaven.

    I've been to several.

I guess it's one of those things you have to do at least once, but personally I think it's overrated.

Prefer to enjoy that good Munich beer and food in a quiet bar somewhere.

Be sure to arrive early or you won't find anywhere to sit.

I've never been but did go to the Berlin beer festival last year. Some Berliners were saying they no longer go because they don't like they way Oktoberfest is going. They reckoned it's getting too big and more violence than in the past (probably too many drunk foreigners). They now call the Berlin one the Friendly Beer Fesitval, it's not as huge as Oktoberfest but still pretty big - a 2.5km beer garden and it's in the summer too.

I'd still love to see Oktoberfest though, just one of those things you need to see.

Taking off to Frankfurt in just two hours...

Will have intermittent access to the Internet throughout the day today.
