I read an article in our local e-com section that Google is going public.Estimated value,15 Billion Dollars!. I remember when Google came on line and was paying affilates 2 cents per click thru C.J.
Now that is success. It was the help of we, the affilates that got Google going and I don't mind saying so. Anyone else remember this?

I also don't remember that. Maybe it was Overture through BeFree? I think they paid 2 cents a search.

Article in Entrepreneur April last year:

"I feel bad about even being associated with those kinds of people," says Brin about cutthroat go-getters featured in documentaries like Startup.com. "I think there are a lot of ethical issues there. That company started with, 'There's an Internet boom--why don't we capitalize on it?' In Google's case, we were really interested in developing our search technology. It wasn't a get-rich-quick thing, and it still isn't. We're trying to build better and better products and a stronger and stronger company, but you don't see us running around trying to make a buck by IPO-ing or selling the company."

15-25 billion will change anybody's mind

I remember hearing about it off-and-on in the distant past, but it was already closed when I got into this so I have no firsthand experience.

As for the google affiliate program. I signed up for it. Made the changes to my site.

    Then it closed.

I got a few hundreds from Altavista's PPC program 3-4 years ago. Then some change from GoTo-Overture (Reporting-BeFree). But I didn't know/use Google back then, so maybe that's why I didn't know about their program. And also the grass was greener.

I recall Google being in BeFree a couple of years ago with 2 cents a click. As soon as they became popular they quit

Yep, It was on befree, I used them on my multi search engine site, about 4 years ago .. at first they paid 2 cents per click, then reduced to 1 cent, and closed, all of it in about 6 months.
