Affiliate Summit West 2009 Hotel Deals
I ran across a really good deal on the Venetian during part of the Affiliate Summit, and thought it might be nice to have a thread for people to report good deals they've found. I know many people like to stay at the conference hotel (Rio Suites), but in Vegas rental cars are cheap and valet parking is free (almost everywhere), so it's never been that important to me.

Anyway, here's the deal I found:

[GONE NOW] The Venetian, Luxury Suite from $119/night (plus $50/night in slot credit + more)
    It's $119/night from 1/11/09 - 1/15/09 (among other nights)
    Must book by 10/20
Can cancel with 72 hour advance notice

I'm not attending the Affiliate Summit but I'm very familiar with Las Vegas hotel rates. That Venetian deal is excellent. The group rate at the Rio is now too high based on the state of the economy and Las Vegas room occupancy levels. It was probably a good deal at the time the rate was negotiated, but it no longer is. Maybe a lower rate can be negotiated at the Rio Suites.

I just checked the rates on the Rio site and the rate for the cheapest available room is $280 on 1/10 and $190 on 1/11 and 1/12.

No, the signed contract is not negotiable between Affiliate Summit and the Rio.

Hotwire currently has the Rio Suites for $199/night plus tax for those dates. It's the 4* hotel with a suite icon in Hotwire's Near Strip West zone. While there is no guarantee, I suspect that rate and the rate on the hotel's website, will decrease between now and then with the current state of the economy.

    Our group rate is $159 - http://www.affiliatesummit.com/09w_travel.php

That time period is rather busy in Vegas with CES, the adult show and others overlapping with us.

I think it's a gamble to hope it goes down.

Isn't that what Vegas is all about?

The convention rate at the Rio is actually fairly decent on Friday or Saturday, when Vegas rates are typically astronomical.

wow Michael - that Venetian rate is nice. I am staying at the Rio for Summit (convenience) but will definitely hook up the Venetian for when my wife joins me after Summit for our Anniversary.

FYI, anyone planning on coming in the Friday or Saturday before ASW09, it'll be a little more of a challenge to find a good deal for those nights. I just discovered that CES (148k people) and another big convention (37k people) are running from 1/8/09 - 1/11/09.

I'm going to let you all in on a locals secret.

If you've never stayed at the South Point, I can't suggest it enough. It's a haul from the Rio, but with the money you'll save you can get a car.

1-11 to 1-15 at the South Point, $70/night.

Arriving early? South Point also has rooms for $120 on Friday and Saturday of CES.

It's a newer off strip casino (built in '04 or '05), extremely clean and safe, easy access to the I-15. Also has free shuttles to Mandalay Bay if I'm not mistaken. You're probably looking at a 10-15 minute drive up to the Rio, but for that rate WHO CARES???

You can also probably talk them down from the rates above if you get a few people to group up together. I've stayed for as little as $35.

I like the Rio and I like the convenience of being at the AffSum hotel. I just booked at the conference rate from Friday until Wednesday. I am so ready for this Summit and five nights in Vegas...

SouthPoint looks like a good alternative. I am leaning towards this hotel as it also is off-the-strip (which I like) .. Anyone else??

Thanks Joe. I booked up my stay at South Point now. Good deal and good 4 star hotel that is Off-stip. Also I generally always have a car (even when I don't really need it) - so the distance to Rio should not be a problem

I stayed right next door at The Grandview last year (for something like $300 for a week - it's far more than that now). South Point looked nice. It's not as glitzy as most of the hotels on the strip, but I think the rooms are big and it's new. It's just off I-15, so Joe's right that it's 10-15 minutes to the Rio Suites - about the same as getting them from anywhere on the strip (or less, sometimes).

One of the best benefits I noticed of staying at the Rio when I booked was that the deluxe suite was the same group rate ($159) as the premium suite, so I went ahead and upgraded for the heck of it.

Although darn it if that's not an AMAZING deal at the Venetian!

I just noticed the date... The Venetian deal must be booked by TONIGHT (and is fully refundable if cancelled at least 72 before checkin). They may offer something comparable after it expires, but if you think you might want it, I would book it now. You can always cancel and rebook something else.

I always stay at the event hotel. I like being able to run back to my room, hang out late with everyone and not have to go out. I got the Premium Studio Suite, it will be awesome.

Not as good of a deal as the Venetian one (which is gone now), but Excalibur, Luxor, and NY-NY have a decent "Block Party" offer while we're there. Still no good deals the nights of 1/9/09 and 1/10/09, but here are the deals starting 1/11/09:

    Excalibur: $41 on 1/11 and 1/12, $91 on 1/13 - 1/15
    Luxor: $69 on 1/11 and 1/12, $119 on 1/13 - 1/17
    New York - New York: $85 on 1/11, $80 on 1/12 - 1/15

These include a VIP club admissions plus a slew of entertainment and dining offers (up to 50% off some) at all three resorts (no matter which one you book). Must book Excalibur by 10/30 or the other two by 11/5. Fully cancellable up to 48 hours before check-in.

To me, I always stay at the conference hotel for any event that I attend.

For the couple of bucks that you can save (that will likely be eaten up by taxi rides and time-wasted), you can:

    1) Be able to meet and network with more people during non-conference hours.
    2) Have the convenience of dropping off all the goodies you collected from all the booths, instead of schlepping them around for hours.
    3) Get any promotional items that the sponsors send to the folks staying at the conference hotel.
    4) Give your friends a break, so that they don't have to wait on you to go back to your hotel, change for dinner and head back ;-)

    Oh... and finally...

Who doesn't want a ShareASale commemorative hotel key????

That's my opinion and I'm sticking too it!

That's an excellent point though - the taxi rides can kill your budget if you stay at a different hotel. I made that mistake at CJU and the taxi was $25 back & forth to the Fess Parker. When I was in Vegas on vacation last year we stayed at the Stratosphere and taxi rides were at least $15 from there to anywhere in the main block of the strip.

So, if you do decide that it's worth it to save some extra green on the hotel and not stay at the Rio, remember that you might just make up that savings in cab fare.

The Venetian deal has gone to come back again.

I've just received an e-mail from them (since we stayed at The Venetian during the ASW 2008) with this link -- the $119/night offer is valid through 3 November.

Unfortunately, the revived Venetian offer only has the $119 rate for one night (1/11/09) around Affiliate Summit.

It looks like the Palazzo has a similar offer, but like the new Venetian one, the low price is only available for that one night around Affiliate Summit. It's $199 or more the rest of the time.

That's still not half bad considering they usually charge something like $400/night I'm told. It is a gorgeous hotel to walk around in. Geno, how nice are the rooms?
