The summit was great, but what I believe you guys may be interested in is the position from the panel discussing the adware not being parasitic.

Everthing they do is legal and above board!

It is not them you need to worry about it is the OTHER people that can’t be detected by you.

Pat Toland said he’s just a systems developer writing software applications for others.

Rob Regular said he has 86 million subscribers in his network, when Gators goes public it will legitimize this segment of the industry.

I suppose being a public company in his opinion makes anything they do legit. (like Enron? ) Rob was supposed to do a roundtable group later but was absent?

The panel admitted there is a policing problem with COC

They group acknowledged ABW and Haiko’s position in these forums.

They considered the members here complaining about parasite ware to be people not doing much in sales and looking for a scapegoat.

The problem I had (and I’m sure Haiko and Andy) is that the panel was closed to questions from the attendee’s?

The one person I spoke to at length after the summit was Will Braunstein from Belcaro, Shopathome he takes the position that he is in full compliance with the COC, from what he said I believe him.

    Your thoughts-

Yes. Along Andy's line, I would have to agree. After all, Nixon was not a crook, Enron made some simple accounting errors and Bonnie & Clyde were just two misunderstood lovers.

quote:
They considered the members here complaining about parasite ware to be people not doing much in sales and looking for a scapegoat.

Indeed. I'm sure none of the ABW members complaining about parasiteware can clear the minimum check requirements from any of the major networks. Actually, it's not an affiliate marketing forum, it's really a support group for the soon-to-be-homeless unemployed.

I feel a snide comment coming on, so I'm hitting Post Now before I get into some serious slander.

There is alot of member here in ABW that is against parasites and make enough money without being greedy and go in the dark side.

ABW member's had given the networks enough evidence that the scums are overwriting cookies!

We don't have to make excuses, they do!

It is a tough competition, but like someone says here, there's enough money to be make for everyone in AM without undermining any ones work! Unless it's not for you and you give up easily.

Just always remember "Crime Doesn't Pay".

Really, when you consider who was originally going to be on the panel and who put it together, was there any potential for anything good to come from this meeting?

Not an ice cubes chance in Hell...

If only those parasites would go away I could make the minimum payment threshold and get a check (and stop wasting all these hundreds of hours chasing $25)

A lot of those people forget about something. People on the whole don't like that stuff. People don't like SPAM, they don't like pops, they don't like stuff getting on their computer without any warning, like the Gator i got on my computer this morning. They pissed Bill off and Bill will strike back with Longhorn or on IE upgrade, he doesn't like these things making peoples computers unstable, or messing with his Windows. Will take some time, before everybody that has a computer becomes knowledgeable, but 1 day it will happen. Hell, we had high school kids all over Xupiter,

"when Gators goes public it will legitimize this segment of the industry "

According to this one could say: when the Mafia goes public it will legitimize this segment of crime.

    It made some of the following claims;

Emotions aside, what Gator does is not, currently, illegal. It's unethical, parasitic, -- yes. But, not illegal. As I recall, they won a few law suits against the likes of The New York Times, on the issue of how they serve ads.

And, unfortunately, they are one of the top properties online, reaching about 9 million unique users a month:
    http://cyberatlas.internet.com/big_p...096631,00.html

In my opinion --while a parasite in nature-- they are not as bad for affiliate as Ebates, WhenU etc. Gator is more of merchants' problem than affiliates as they don't directly steal affiliate commissions. Regardless, they should be fought against by affiliates as effectively as other partners in crime.

Actually they settled litigation brought against it by the New York Post, The New York Times, Dow Jones and other media companies. There still is a consolidated lawsuit against them from the Washington Post, L.L. Bean and others. There was also a case where WeightWatchers sued Dietwatch.com for using Gator to deliver ads to visitors of its site and in June they got a permanent injunction against Dietwatch.
