I've actually noticed a decrease in spam hitting our servers the past week or so. The NZ article mentioned that 120 billion emails were being sent daily!

are they talking about the spam itself or what big dicks these spammers are?

Billions of SPAM emails sent a day ... geeeeze. Good riddance!

On a side note ... I'm happy to see the FTC doing something about bad guys for a change instead of going after good guys.

One comment on the article was that the average person in the U.S. spends 2.8 minutes a day deleting spam. I spend way more time than that. At least an hour a day without even looking at my junk mail folder. Anyone else spend that much more than 2.8 minutes deleting SPAM or am I a bigger SPAM magnet than most?

Wow, an hour a day Rex? That's almost uncomprehensible. I'd say that between all of the email addresses I have for our different ventures that I get maybe 80 - 100 spams a day. In all honesty, I don't bother to read even the subject lines. I just highlight, click and delete by batch. So I'd say I take less than 5 minutes a day. On the other hand, the spam I receive in my USPO mail is even more annoying and takes more of our time than deleting email spam. It would be nice if the govt would / could enforce the "don't mail" list laws, but seems like that is an impossible task, especially considering that the USPO relies on spam snail mail for revenue.

Interesting post. I think though that at the moment, trying to stop spam is like trying to talk the wind down

I still wish we had caning as a punishment in this country for spammers.

I have a feeling that if the botnet has already been established, that someone is involved who will just sell that botnet access to the next big spammer...
