Just got laid off/AM looking for work
    Hey everybody,

Just got laid off today . Your prayers and support are much appreciated. Although I did perform various other tasks the affiliate program was not producing enough to justify me having a job. I did receive a severance package so donít feel too sorry for me. It was a great learning experience. I thank them for the opportunity and wish them the best.

I would love to stay with affiliate management if anybody knows of any job openings within the Chicago area, work from home positions or just where to look in general. I appreciate this forum very much so and the people that participate in it as I have been able to learn a considerable amount in a short period of time and stay current on affiliate marketing trends.

Briefly I did identify and recruit affiliates, develop relationships with key affiliates while advising how to maximize revenue opportunities, provided support for technical questions and data feed implementation and worked with our web development team on content, strategy and tools for the success of our affiliates.

    Thanks in advance!

    All the best,

    David

    David,
Not sure where you worked previously. But Adam, aka Rollerblader, had posted he had a position open a week or two ago. Might check with him.

sorry to hear of the change for you, but that just means opportunity right ;-)

one thing that crosses my mind is maybe checking with some of the growing indi sites for new products that have a site, but no program. Maybe they could use someone to help with the growth of their brick and mortar to the web.

    do you code pages too?

I am not sure whether you are familiar with info products and membership sites. But there are quite a lot of people looking for affiliate management advice at the "warrior forum" which is supposed to be the top Internet Marketing site for these products. They are particularly interested in finding super-affiliates to promote their producst. Moroever, many of these products are in the money-making or money-saving niche that are supposed to be relatively recession-proof.

You can think up of an affiliate management package and then release it as a WSO "Warrior Special Offer" there.

Another thing to keep in mind (just based on your location) is that the top four affiliate networks all have offices in Chicago.

My husband just got laid off too. But luckily he can just sit on unemployment until we move. Also remember if times get tough and it is hard for you to find a job, try lowering your standards to get you by. I have seen tons of people with out jobs, and the only reason 80% of my friends who don't have work is that they have to high of expectations, exspecially now that the economy is in a down slope. I think it is harder for us to lower our expectations when it comes to working, Best of luck to you!

Thanks, and yes I'm definitely looking forward to bringing what I've learned along with my past sales and business development skills to my next company and opportunity! I know some basic html, but don't do any coding.

Starting a business after being laid off
    Hi David,

While things may not seem so great now, I understand what you're going through. As mentioned, when things look bad, there's always an opportunity. Because of the downturn in the economy, one of my friends lost several hundred thousand in the market. So right now I'm helping him get started in his own online business. I truly think that it's a great way to fight off the negative impacts of the economy...without the high costs or risk of a traditional startup.

I'm sure that you have a lot of talent as an Affiliate Manager. What Pdaden mentioned is a great way to quick income - that would be using your skills to help other businesses grow via the information that you provide.

There's a guy that I know of that has made a substantial impact in the marketing community because of his work experience in Google. Now he's making a living off teaching from his experiences.

I just checked and it still says you cannot receive emails. I'm out for the night, so if you want to submit your resume, just send me an email.

Try to contact SEOP. They are starting to develop their affiliate management arm. The person to get in touch would be Christine. Her email is Christine (at) seop (dot) com.

There are listings on the AC Certified website I believe, and you can always try looking on Craigslist and talking to people you've networked with to see if they know of anything.

Just wanted to give everybody a quick update. Itís been a crazy last 4 months but I now work in sales for a web design and development company and have been dabbling in becoming an affiliate myself on the side.

I work with a partner who is a seo specialist and knows enough about design to make decent looking sites. We have already launched a couple sites and Iím quickly seeing how tough it is. The good thing is Iím prepared to be patient and know that if I stick around here long enough I will learn a lot.

Creating content and marketing is really enjoyable to me, but I need to learn more about design in order to have my own sites. I plan to have my own blog soon and like many others have become addicted to twitter.

I look forward to interacting from the other side of things and thank everybody again for all their support. This truly is a great place with many great people. I hope I get the chance to meet everybody at an Affiliate Summit someday.

Kind of amazing ... People who work as affiliate managers actually need a job.

Why do you need a job? Affiliate marketing is nirvana and the money flows like honey.

Which just goes to show you all the hype about AM is just that ... hype.

Why can't these supposed knowledgable people make a living doing AM?

They keep telling us all how their programs can make us a ton of money but when
reality sets in they need a job ... why not become an affiliate of the program you
managed when you got laid off.

And why are people being laid off ... AM is a gold mine, right?

Seem, unless you do some big time PPC and get some critical mass organic search traffic - poverty is the norm. But hey, if you follow the guru's down the yellow brick road, you will prosper like a herd of lemmings at an OWL convention.

In all fairness I was hired into an in-house program selling fonts which there isn't really much money in. They were trying to mainstream commercial fonts when most people are very happy with all the free ones they can get. I had other responsibilities as well so I was more like a business development rep and this was my first experience as an am.

As far as becoming an affiliate for this program now...I'm not really interested in fonts. I'm now promoting verticals that I'm interested in like sports and saving people money.

    David,

Walgreens is somewhere in IL and is looking for an AM.

Also, call Wade Schlosser at AffiliatePrograms.com and tell him I referred you. They are looking for someone and work from home is an option.
