I wonder, does that make them the oldest network?

(This is a serious question as I don't know!)

Nope, as far as I remember:
    Amazon: July 1996
    BeFree: 1996
    LinkShare: Dec 1996
    CJ: 1998

Congrats on 10 years - a truly amazing feat, to bad you couldn't celebrate it with a quality video. Compare that vs. any LS event video ... it's night and day.

..and CDNow's BuyWeb program (essentially the first public affiliate program) was launched even earlier (in November 1994).

Well even though the reporting is way off, and maybe they aren't the oldest affiliate company, they do make a stand on their own, we all be it noob's or seasoned make a good living with this company. So congrats on the 10 year mark, hopefully you can add a zero to that and be very successful!

10 years isn't very long... well done though, how many more years will you survive?

If I had my current sites running CJ links back in 98, I would probably be making six figures a year. That is assuming someone could actually view my sites with the browsers of the day. Netscape Navigator 4.0 might be a problem!

Fast forward 10 years to present and those same sites make marginal earnings with CJ links, and that is perhaps an overstatement.

This makes me think that whatever one is doing at present, no matter how great it seems at the moment, will probably be fairly worthless 10 years from now if you do not adapt and innovate.

Too true...people forget that things change and you have to change with them to remain relevant and successful.

I would have to respectfully disagree. For them to come in when they did, in the evolution of the internet, is something to be celebrated. I know many companies in this genre that have begun and ended within ten years.

When I worked at IBM, I believe they told us that every year in the technlology industry was like a decade in all the others (manufacturing, financials, agriculture, etc.) I would assume internet marketing to have a similar timeline.

So in effect, and just for this illustration, they have been around a century.
