It seems like I'm missing something very basic but I created a site map on recomendations i read on ABW. I believe it has helped get most of my pages indexed very quickly (some pages seemed to always get passed over). The problem is that it's showing up in google's search results alongside my pages when I search out a particular phrase. Is the something I must do in the robots.txt file so it can be spidered bu not listed in the search results?
    Thanks Guys!

    If you build your sitemap for visitors as well as search engine spiders, why not have it listed. I would have thought it a good thing.

    I get lots of hits to my sitemap. I don't worry about it - and the visitors find what they want relatively quickly from the site map.

    Whatever you do, do not exclude it from your robots.txt file. Like you mentioned, it helped get your pages spidered.

    What Bsnrjones said.

    Make sure you have a link to your main page. Surfers are generally dummies and like it handed to them on a plate.

    You can make your site map very visitor friendly, and take advantage of the traffic you get. I discoverd the same thing you did, and decided not to look a gift horse in the mouth.

    You might try a metatag like this:

<meta name="robots" content="noindex,follow">

    A good search engine should follow all links on the page but not index it.

    Sounds like that might help.
