With no state income tax that suits me just fine since we don't buy much gas. Sorry for the others though...

Cheapest around here is $1.97. Wish I had a 1,000 gas tank that I could fill up and then use when the price goes back up.

$1.86/gallon about 10 miles away. I filled up for $1.96/gallon earlier today (without going out of my way).

Sub $2 is incredible. Gas can be had here in nor-cal for $2.35, which is less than half of it's peak earlier this summer.

The Shell station nearest me still insists on $2.95 though. I wonder how they stay in business.

But yeah, I wish I had a bigger tank to store it for when it goes back up.

Remember when Chrysler did that gas promotion, $2.99 a gallon for 2 years(?) when you buy a car. Wonder what the people who bought those cars are doing now... are they stuck paying $2.99 when the price is $1.92?

I had trained myself not to look, so as to minimize the pain, but I looked today. $2.41 is best in Rochester. Fast-Trac in Henrietta.

Do you think people will be doing more of their holiday shopping at the mall instead of online now that it costs less to get there?

Interesting question. I think if we keep seeing as many Free Shipping offers then people may still opt to do their holiday shopping online, although if prices keep going down people might just venture out. Time will tell.

In the UK we pay about £1 per litre - so about £4.5 a UK gallon or £3.75 a US gallon. Convert that into USD and it costs us $6.00 equivalent. Go figure!

Generally speaking yes; there will be more money in the economy to spend on things other than gas. I think some people will still be worried about their job, and perhaps try to build up their savings just in case.

Another thing, don't expect the prices to stay low. This is not menat to be a political statement, but with prices dropping, and Deomcrats controling the legislative and executive branches, I don't believe more oil exploration will be a priority. Alternative energy sources sounds nice, warm, and fuzzy, but switching the more than 250 million cars in the U.S. to something other than gas will take many, many decades, not one.

As the world economy emerges from recession, oil demand will rise accordingly. If we don't take the steps now to get production ramped up, I expect oil will top the previous high significantly.

I'm guessing most of it is taxes.

I wish we could do what Australia does. They have compressed natural gas stations and the government offers a $2,500 tax credit if you have your vehicle equipped for CNG, which is about what it costs to have your vehicle fitted. When I was down there last year, my client was running both gasoline and CNG with dual tanks.

CNG would be great, but again, it still requires our politicians to open up more areas to drilling.

I haven't done the math, but I wonder how long natural gas would last if all 250 million vehicles were burning it?

It got down to as low as $1.59 (for the regular) in our area!! Filled up a tank for less than 30 bucks today (paying only $1.79 for the premium). Yay!
