quotes vs no quotes and special char cleanup
I've been on this for a month and I seem to be getting further away from success.
I changed from no quotes on the output file, to quotes (")
I just ran the test for 10 records and got the following error list.
Also, can anyone tell me what special characters I should be cleaning up in the datafeed, prior to exporting it?

    Error processing record 1:

If you are importing which feed from which company are you talking about? Also - provide some sample lines from the feed.

'%20BUYURL' means there is a space before the BUYURL

Make sure that your field names match what you have in your template

    many Thanks!
I've got a little closer and it was making 100 records with folders, but stops on a certain record. cannot make directory. So I played with the html code, but unsuccessfully. Now it is only making pages, but says it is successful. no folders.

This look like WebMerge error notifications. If so, you're always welcome to post any WebMerge-related questions in the WebMerge forums here on ABW:
    http://forum.abestweb.com/forumdisplay.php?f=194

But while we're here let's see what we can do for you.

That error comes up when a field specified in a WM-Field tag can't be found in the source file. Normally a WM-Field tag looks something like this:

    [WM-Field: MyFieldName]

You can add other options to that, and it looks like you're using the "replace" option, which would look something like this:

    [WM-Field MyFieldName replace(<findString>,<replaceStr>)]

...where "<findString>" is the string you want to be replaced, and "<replaceStr>" is what you want to replace it with.

From the error info provided, it looks like the replace string info doesn't contain two arguments, a find and a replace string, so it's not clear what you want to do.

But more importantly, it looks like the field name is "'%20CATEGORY%20", and that there is no space between the field name and the "replace" option, so WebMerge is trying to find a field named "'%20CATEGORY%20replace("')", and I'm guessing that's not the name of any field in the source.

"%20" is sometimes used as a replacement for a space character. Assuming you didn't type that into your template directly, my hunch is that perhaps you typed that in a layout mode in your HTML editor, and it's being too clever and trying to reformat it for you, when it should just leave it alone.

What HTML editor are you using?

I've had some customers using FrontPage report this sort of too-clever behavior, but most editors also provide a Source mode where you can work on the HTML directly. Just add your HTML in a Source mode or whatever your editor provides for modifying the HTML without its intervention, and you should be able to resolve this easily.

If not, post a reply here or in the WebMerge forum and we'll look into other possible solutions. Given the large number of people using WebMerge for this sort of thing I'm confident we'll have you up and running in no time.

I just double-checked and found that you've also posted this in the WebMerge forum. I guess you found it okay.

Try the suggestion I posted here, and if you still have issues with it feel free to continue this in your WebMerge forum thread.

I'll continue it in the webmerge forum, and many thanks!
But I am getting further away from successful folders and pages.

again, thank you all so much.
I was using frontpage for this, but it did keep adding characters in.

see you in the other forum
