Arrow Spendthrift to frugal, in record time.
Spendthrift (spend' thrift') n. a person who spends money carelessly; squanderer.

Frugal (froo' gel) adj. not wasteful; not spending freely; thrifty.

As economic news has worsened and recession appears inevitable, Americans' spending habits have swung from one definition to another.

It's gonna be a long 9 months ahead... and that is if we kick out of it within the next 3 months.

Frugal isn't neccesarily bad. People still need to by some stuff. Iit is important that they see what you are selling is needful, useful , something they were going to purchase anyway but your price point is better than what they would have found at a local store.

agree. Both businesses and individuals need to increase savings and reduce debt in tough times. Here's a great article on the benefits of deflation.

Interesting article(s)! How do you think this is going to affect the affiliate marketing sphere? I'm getting conflicting opinions, with some people saying it's stronger than ever and others saying it's taking a big hit. What are your thoughts?

I beleive strong companies, wether traditional or AM, can prosper in the tough environment were in.

    - HP just announced that earnings beat expectations.

    - GM SUV plant in Texas has increased production as demand has increased with the drop in gas prices.

    - Smaller banks and mortage lenders are actually doing quite well.

The news outlets tend to focus on the negative, but many positive business stories are out there. I think that if you have been successful in the past, you can be successful now.

I agree, the bad news is usually the focus of the media. With layoffs and money issues more people are looking for freelance work so we're up around 52% over last month.

Yes, I see your point. The media does make everything depressing. Glad to see that some companies are doing well!

While I wouldn't have considered myself a spendthrift per se, I've definitely noticed that I'm being more frugal lately in my shopping. Mostly with the grocery store - buying generic more often, taking advantage of sales and coupons, etc.

I've never been one for the use of coupons at the grocery store but with the price of food lately I'm definitely paying more attention to the ads I get in the mail before I go shopping.

"The Millionaire Next Door" is a great book that reveals most millionaires are very frugal. They live modestly, buy less house than they can "afford", and drive large, used, American cars. Most are also self made millionaires and business owners.
