Build a better website, add some value so the customer will not bounce. It all comes down to building a good worthwhile website.

Take a look at your site as a customer and see if you bounce yourself. It is a good test

A high bounce rate isn't ALWAYS a terrible sign. It just means it's the only page the G Java was picked up on. If you have a good landing page, with a strong call to action through an affiliate link, you might be doing things exactly right.

If you're a merchant or service providor, and your phone number is right there, it might be ok too.

try to align your ppc and seo keywords better with your page's content, high bounce rates are commonly caused by this mismatch. and keep in mind that you need to look at relative bounce rates, because to someone who doesn't know what to expect, they seem inordinately high, especially when site ownership's pride affects your judgment.

Donuts raises another good point. Look at your ad content as well. Is the ad setting an expectation that isn't being met? Even if your landing page is effective, if the ad doesn't correctly express the offer or contents, they will bounce like crazy.

Our organic bounce is higher than our PPC bounce, because I tailor the ads for a very specific audience. Letting Google do that for me in the SERPs is not quite as effective

A high bounce rate isn't necessarily a bad thing, especially for an affiliate who doesn't get paid until the visitor leaves your site and buys something from your advertiser's site. But there's good bounces -- shopper clicks through to the merchant -- and bad bounces -- they hit the back button. If you're getting too many bad bounces, follow the suggestions above to improve landing page relevance.
