Drum roll please... Creating Custom Toolbars For Affiliates

Pretty soon every affiliate is going to want one in order to keep up with the unethical affiliate sites that already have toolbars. This could be a gold mine.

Ok, I am kidding. I have no idea how to even create a toolbar.

Toolbars are unfortunately very easy to create, there are sites that sell them and make affiliates think they are perfectly fine. Then the affiliate finds out later when they get shut down by a network like Shareasale that it isn't ok.

So affiliates on SAS are not allowed to have any type of toolbars for download or are there exceptions to that?

Toolbars are wonderful things if you create one that DOESN'T break the rules AND provides a useful service to the people that download it..

I created a toolbar for my site and it breaks no rules. However, it was SO anoying for visitors as it had a popup saying use me... use meee... that I took it off.

There are "good" toolbars and "bad" toolbars. If you are using a toolbar or reminder software as an affiliate, you have to tell Shareasale and they test it for compliance. Good toolbars send people to your website, they don't just add your affiliate id to links and have people go click to buy.

This is the simplified version, I am sure someone here can explain more thoroughly...

Ok my toolbar had no affiliations with anyone. It wasnt that kind of toolbar.

There was a place on it for me to send direct messages to the member of the site. There were shortcuts to their favourite topics. A home page link, and an RSS feed for the latest on the site.

    Thats a good toolbar.

The next great thing is extensions, plugins, and widgets (whatever you want to call them for whatever browser). I have been seeing a lot of them doing some dirty things as well.

I know I could use a bit more clarification.

Try doing a search and get educated on the subject. There is plenty of information available here.

I avoid all toolbars like the plague. I know there are some -good?- ones out there, but I avoid them all. Then I don't have to worry about what 'might' be happening behind the scenes, how they might conflict with other software, etc.

I've got enough things to worry about.
