    Reporting Affiliate Income in Canada
    Hey,

I am thinking about being an affiliate marketer through clickbank. I am currently going to school in America but am an Canadian and want to start as soon as I return in a couple of weeks.

I need to know how I go about reporting my income and am wondering if I need to register as a business?

Your advise would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

No need to register as a business however you will need to report all your income with Revenue Canada when you do your income tax return in Feb. Revenue Canada is keeping a close eye on affiliates, they visit your sites and find out who is the owner of the sites and if you are Canadian they keep a close eye on you tax returns. They also have other means of getting the information as well.

Affiliate income would be reported just like any additional income earned - personally, or through a business (sole proprietor or corporation). As an affiliate, you can register your business, or just your own personal self - the tax id you provide is your social insurance number.

Earning commissions doesn't make you an employee, and it's your responsibility to report the extra income on your tax return.

I'm Canadian too, and I'm peeved that I have to report my US income, but it is what it is

Your welcome, I do it at the end of the year. I will post more details on what fourms I use later (when I have time to look at last year return)

Merged two threads that were the same question, so some posts are kinda duplicated.

This is a helpful thread - thank you. I've been filing my own returns based on a non-IM related business for years now but this is my first year reporting affiliate income. I'm wondering kse what industry code you use when filling out Form T2124 (now T2125)?

I use Industry Code: 454111 looked like the best fit for me, I been using it for several years without any problems.

I signed up for an EIN and put down Retail - Internet sales. Was that the correct thing to do?
