    All I Wanted For Christmas
Arrgh....so I get an email from *let's just say an online-only retailer* today regarding my order. It informed me that due to the item not being in stock from the supplier, that my order would be canceled. Kinda bums me out. Of course they have it still advertised in the larger (and more costly) sizes. It was for my wife and I was only going to buy her this one thing for Christmas. Good thing I have a little time to keep looking. Sometimes shopping online can be so inconvenient.

I had the same problem with shopping for my grandson. I knew what he wanted, I knew where to get it. I ordered it, with extra things to go with it and I get an email that the little stuff was shipped, but not the main thing. Stupid merchant! They even called me to let me know, but AFTER the partial order was shipped. And the main thing isn't going to be back in stock until February....

I don't mind if they tell me *when* I order, or *before* they ship anything, but this company handled things wrong and won't be getting re-orders in the future.

I did find what I wanted, but I shouldn't have had too....

Hope you find what you want too

You would have canceled everything if they'd warned you in advance (otherwise you wouldn't have any reason to be mad). And, I'd give it a good 90% chance that you wouldn't have re-ordered from them in the future anyway, due to your being pissed that they were out of The Item, regardless of how they handled it. So, I have to side with them. They salvaged part of a sale which would have otherwise disappeared in its entirety.

I think it was weird of them to call you, though. Maybe some low-level manager thought it'd be funny, to make some poor employee call the irate customer...

I am afraid we will see more and more of this. Contrary to popular belief, many US shops are keeping very litte inventory in order to minimize the risk of unsold goods. Orders of goods from China for the christmas season are well down and the manufacturers are downsizing as well.

If the shop does not have it in stock, I would strongly advise that you make sure that your order is cancelled and your credit card refunded.

They probably figured they better call because the shipping notice I was emailed said the entire order shipped. That should have never been sent.
