    Slow internet for anybody??
Last night was really slow and this morning still is. Taking forever to even log into a couple places. Here it's realllllly slow. I switched to cable about a month or so ago and even tho people say it's supposed to be faster has actually been slower for me.

Is anybody else having problems with internet bein realllly slow or is it just me.

Seems pretty quick. Have you tried a speed test to see what your connection is at?

I usually use ... www. speedtest. net

My cable connection is 3502 kb/s download and 362 kb/s

Not sure how or what it means but there's a green box that says:
13868 kbps that has a gray arrow pointing down
there's a space underneath which says kbps and is just empty that has an orange arrow pointing up

There's a big gray box that says 19 ms png

So, umm don't have a clue what any of that means keep tellin you guys am not very computer techie.

Yes, that is cable. I tested it again and it has gone down a bit. Probably with people using it more as people get to work.

Purple bear, you are referring to the test site that Seymour referred to yes? There are two boxes, one says 'upload' and the other 'download'. Any numbers in those boxes?

    I've got 9737 kb/s download; 4831 kb/s upload using Cox Cable

Purplebear, call your ISPs tech support. They can test your connection from their end for any trouble. Could be you have a bad physical connection (bad cable, etc) or could be something on their end.

I just pulled a 20610 dowload. Thought it was a fluke so I did it again and came up with 25275.

Sometimes I think MY connection is slow. Guess I should just shut up and get back to work.

ladidah - tried it again and it said 24689 kbps and same as before

"There are two boxes, one says 'upload' and the other 'download'. Any numbers in those boxes?"

Nope, not seein any of that. I just went to the url Seymour gave. Since where I'm at didn't have the little pyramid I clicked on the recommended one. It gave that number I recorded above. Next to the yellow pyramid there's kinda an outline of a person and below it says testing upload. It's been stuck at that tho for quite some time. Maybe from what you say it's just not finished doin what it does? Altho, as long as it's been doesn't seem like it will anytime soon.

Greywolf - oooooh you really must hate me to suggest that. lol Just teasin Last time before the cable phone company had me offline for a week without any phone or computer at all cos I called em (not me, but husband did) That's what made us switch to the cable so we wouldn't be in that situation again. Both of us think it's actually quite a bit slower tho. Will have to do that I suppose tho if it doesn't improve.

    Thanks everybody for your help

That speedtest thingie is very cool.

I got 5393 download and 971 upload on a cable modem.

Couple folks in New York City have been complaining about connectivity and speed lately.

I took a look at HughesNet Satellite Internet just to see if it would beat DSL in Vermont. Here's what their website says "With the HughesNet Home service plan, you may enjoy download speeds up to 1000Kbps, with typical speeds of about 650Kbps to 750Kbps during peak times. Upload speeds, which are capable of reaching 128Kbps, are typically 70Kbps to 80Kbps during peak hours."

Upload 70-80? This service must be for people that don't even have a phone line.

I just tested again and got 1282/278

We can't even get satellite. I had someone here try and set it up, but he couldn't get a good signal because of the mountains.

Vermont is an amazingly beautiful state, but where I am sucks for internet connections

2555 and 416 on DSL with no cable option. I thought it was fast until seeing the results folks are posting. Discontent and jealousy feelings now.

530/146 here. Of course, it really slows to a crawl once everyone on this overloaded network starts to get online.

I used to do affiliate stuff on dial-up. Then we switched to cable, wow, what a difference. Then we moved again, went back down to dial-up, then we went up to DSL.

Even though my connection is very slow compared to others, it is a lot better than dial-up.

I remember working on affiliate sites with a dial-up connection, and having to create links through the old Befree network. Now that was painful
